  2. 'More positives than negatives'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Northern Ireland 1-2 Bosnia-Herzegovina

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill: "Delighted with the performance, I thought we dominated the game. We should have had a penalty early in the game, in the second half we were well on top and it looked like we were going to get 1-1 but then conceded a disappointing goal.

"Overall there were a lot more positives than negatives. There was not a performance from any of the players we were disappointed with at all. The only real thing we could have done better was maybe our final ball."

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis: "There were a lot of positives to take from the game. We have definitely played a lot worse and won. We made a fast start, there was a good energy to the team today. We need to be a lot more clinical in the future."

    • Since a run of five consecutive victories between March and September 2017, Northern Ireland have won just one of their last eight games (D2 L5).
    • Bosnia and Herzegovina have won back-to-back games in all competitions for the first time since March 2017, having won 3-1 against South Korea in their previous outing.
    • Northern Ireland have lost three of their last four home games (W1), as many as they had in their previous 21 on home soil (W12 D6).
    • Northern Ireland have conceded in four consecutive home fixtures for the first time since March 2013 (a run of seven games).
    • Three of Northern Ireland’s last four goals in all competitions have been scored in the 86th minute or later.
    • Despite losing the fixture, Northern Ireland had 26 shots (inc. blocks) compared to just five for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Indeed, the away side scored with two of their three shots on target in the game.

It will hurt at the minute but Michael O'Neill will be pleased with the overall performance. It was a dominant display from Northern Ireland.

  7. 'Two sides to it'published at 16:14 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

Northern Ireland's Jamal Lewis: "Great performance from the lads, I don't think I have played in many games as one sided as that.

"There were two sides to it - we are very frustrated but at the same time it is promising that we are playing good football and creating a lot of chances."

  9. 'We were brilliant in the first 20 minutes'published at 16:07 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

Northern Ireland goalscorer Will Grigg: "I think we won't play much better than the first 20 minutes, we were brilliant. It was just one of those days, it wasn't to be.

"It is great to be back involved. It was nice to get a goal but the whole point of today was to get the win."

  10. 'We paid the price'published at 16:04 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

Northern Ireland's George Saville, speaking to Sky Sports: "Massively disappointed. We dominated the first half, two sloppy goals, errors from us and they get punished at this level.

"I think it was a penalty early on, I felt contact, but we have to take chances and we paid the price today."

They lacked a little bit of composure in the final third but, overall, I think Michael O'Neill will be pleased with that performance.

It was not to be but plenty of positives for Northern Ireland to take from that. Ultimately they were just a clinical finisher away from victory.

    Northern Ireland 0-2 Bosnia-Herzegovina

The 90 minutes are up and there will be six minutes of time added on.

There's a few cheers of encouragement, but surely finding two goals in that time is a task beyond Northern Ireland. They are starting to look leggy after all the pressing they have done in this game without reward.
