The past two matches between Hibernian and Aberdeen have ended as draws and it would be no surprise if this cup tie heads into extra-time, and who knows - maybe even penalty kicks.

Neil Lennon’s side have been a far more potent threat in front of goal than the visitors with only the Norwegian side Molde keeping the Hibernian strikers at bay in the Europa league.

Likewise, the Dons have been denied only once (at home to Kilmarnock) but have found the net just 11 times in the nine games played this campaign.

At the same stage last season the Pittodrie strikers had scored 18 goals and the onus is now on James Wilson, on loan from Manchester United, to lead the line along with Sam Cosgrove.

Other than their respective strikers both teams have players in their starting line-ups who know their way to goal.

In Martin Boyle and Gary Mackay-Steven there are two players on the park who can light up a game and that is undoubtedly what both sets of fans will be looking for on a chilly evening in Leith.

  6. First goal important - Lennonpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hibernian v Aberdeen (19:45)

Hibernian head coach Neil Lennon on Sportsound: "On medical advice, we've decided not to take a risk with David Gray. You don't want to take a massive gamble with a player like that.

"It's a cup tie and it's important to us. We want to try and get on the front foot. We can be flexible in the way we play.

"If the game opens up, that'll suit us. It's important we try and get the first goal tonight."

  8. McInnes wants 'motivated performance'published at 19:12 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hibernian v Aberdeen (19:45)

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes on Sportsound: "We've got to try and make sure that we recognise the strength of Hibs.

"Hopefully, we can get some sort of element of control in the game. Hopefully, we've got the answers on the pitch to get the result.

"There's some games you can get through and win games by not playing at your best. I don't think you can do that against Hibs.

"A highly motivated performance can hopefully get us into the semi-finals.

"James Wilson has got off to a good start. The only way he's going to get match fit is by getting minutes on the pitch."

Aberdeen haven’t had the hallmark of a goalscoring team. You’re looking at the wide men to be creative and find the back of the net. They are not shaping up to be a team that scores a lot of goals.

  12. Familiar foes target semi-finalspublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 25 September 2018

    Hibernian v Aberdeen (19:45)

It's the first of this week's Scottish League Cup quarter-finals as Hibernian host Aberdeen.

The Dons have already visited Easter Road in the Premiership this season, when they were pegged back in a 1-1 draw.

These sides have met six times in the past 17 months and Derek McInnes's Aberdeen have the edge in results over that period but Neil Lennon's Hibs are unbeaten against the Dons so far in 2018.

Who will prevail tonight? We'll find out over the next few hours and the match has to be played to a finish tonight.
