Alistair Wiseman: I have said for years Giroud is one of the most under rated forwards of the last few years. Reliable, surprisingly skillful but also a wonderful focal man who can hold, distribute, assist and score. Easily as good if not better than Kane.

  2. Can Emery go one better than Trapattoni?published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2019

    Arsenal v Rennes (20:00 GMT)

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is the joint most successful manager in Uefa Cup/Europa League history.

He won it three times in a roe with Sevilla, between 2014 and 2016, matching former Inter Milan and Juventus boss Giovanni Trapattoni (1977, 1991, 1993).

"We are very demanding of ourselves," Emery said.

"For us, it's one positive issue because we want to play big matches, tough matches against the best teams - and in the Europa League we are finding some results like the last round against Bate Borisov with difficulty.

"I want to play matches that are difficult, with difficult results or with difficult players."

    Arsenal v Rennes (20:00 GMT)

Rennes manager Julien Stephan is surprised Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is allowed to play tonight.

The Frenchman was due to complete a three-game European ban tonight for his red card against Bate Borisov in the last round. But Uefa upheld an appeal 48 hours before the game, reducing the sanction to two matches.

"The timing is rather surprising for everyone involved," said Stephan.

"We didn't think he would be included up until Tuesday evening."

Stephan has also noted that the hosts of the legs were switched. Arsenal should have been at home last week but they could not be at home on the same day as Chelsea.

"The first thing that was a bit strange was changing the first and second leg," said Stephen.

"This is now the second thing that has happened that changes. Hopefully, there will not be any more surprises and the referee will be great."

Think Valencia have just scored judging by their tweet? Goncalo Guedes bags an equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.

That means they are now going through! So much drama in Russia!

Tim Verhaert: Before any Arsenal fans trying to claim Chelsea had the easier tie. This Kiev has beaten Rennes 3-1 and 2-1 in the group stage this season.

Aamer Iqbal: Are English club sides really this good at the moment or is it a case of too many poor European teams? I would like to think it is our sides being top draw.

Magomed Suleymanov has just scored what could be an 85th-minute winner for FK Krasnodar to send them through to the quarter-finals at Valencia's expense, thanks to the away goal advantage!

The furthest they have reached is the last 32 prior to this season's competition. It's only their third ever campaign in the Europa League.

Oleksandr Andrievsky comes on for Volodymyr Shepelev.

According to Wikipedia, Alexander Andrijevsky (Russian: Алекса́ндр Леони́дович Андрие́вский; born August 10, 1968, in Minsk, Soviet Union) is a former Belarusian professional ice hockeyplayer who played one game in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Blackhawks. He is currently the head coach to Admiral Vladivostok of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
