This is a tough time to be a United fan - though I know we won’t get much sympathy. I grew up in Manchester in the 90s, so I know I’ve been spoiled! But these players need to start playing for pride and the badge on their chest, regardless of the manager...

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

In his latest column, former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has had his say on the state of the club:

"United have got to get back to basics - because they are not even doing the basics well enough.

"What I mean by that is passing the ball 20 yards with pace on it, or talking to each other and looking like a unit.

"It sounds ridiculous because we are talking about such expensive players who are earning big money, but that is where they are at the moment."

  7. 'I want to score more than Messi' - Kanepublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Tottenham v Barcelona (20:00 BST)

England's golden boot winner Harry kane has set himself a pretty big challange.

The striker has said that he wants to break Lionel messi's Barcelona goal-scoring record.

    That would be some feat.

Kane, 25, will line up against Messi on Wednesday when Spurs host Barcelona at Wembley in Group B of the Champions League.

"He's definitely set the standard for the rest of us and it motivates me to get even better," Kane said.

"Hopefully one day I can score as many, if not more, than he has."

Kane's current goal tally for Spurs: 145

Messi's current goal tally for Barca: 560 (103 in the Champions League)

  8. 'We have to win' - Rosepublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Tottenham v Barcelona (20:00 BST)

Tottenham defender Danny Rose says Spurs were disappointed with the result in Milan, and it means they "have to win" at home to Barcelona tonight.

"We're fully aware of that. We've proved that we can do it. At the minute we're winning ugly."

Defeat by Inter was Spurs' third in a row, but they have since won three successive games to climb to fourth in the Premier League and reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Simon Bunyard: Another long-time United fan. I'll support them through the tough times, always. But I agree, it's time for Jose to depart, players don't want to play for him. Speaking of players, I'm fed up with their words after losses "We'll bounce back" etc. Do it, don't say it!

'Group of death'published at 10:21 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Tottenhan v Barcelona (20:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Group C has been given the title as this year's 'group of death'.

And with Barcelona, Tottenham and Inter Milan in it, it's not hard to understand why.

Spurs didn't get to the best of starts with a loss to Inter at the San Siro two weeks ago.

But they weren't outclassed and their performance will probably give them plenty of confidence going into this home tie against Barcelona

And Barca are currently in quite patchy domestic form, without a win in three La Liga games.

    • Barcelona have lost just one of their past 11 Champions League matches against English clubs (won eight, drew two). However, they are without a win in their past two visits to England in the competition (drew one, lost one), a 1-1 draw with Chelsea last season and a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City in 2016-17.
    • This will be only the third match between Tottenham and Barcelona and the first since April 1982 in the semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup, which Barcelona won 2-1 on aggregate.

    Napoli v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

You love a stat. I love a stat. So here's a few for Liverpool's clash with Napoli tonight.

    • This will be only the third match played between Napoli and Liverpool in European competition, with them last facing off in the 2010-11 Europa League group stage.
    • In the last competitive meeting between these two sides in November 2010, Liverpool won 3-1 at Anfield courtesy of a Steven Gerrard hat-trick. The only previous meeting in Naples finished goalless in October 2010.
    • Napoli have only won twice in their last nine Champions League games (W2 D1 L6), although both of those victories came at home.
    • Roberto Firmino has been directly involved in 18 goals in just 14 Champions League appearances for Liverpool (11 goals, seven assists).
    • Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has never lost in the Champions League in four previous matches against Liverpool (W3 D1), however that one draw was in the 2005 final, when the Reds came from 3-0 down at half-time to Ancelotti’s Milan side to draw 3-3 before triumphing on penalties to win their 5th European Cup/Champions League title.

Should be a good un', don't you think?

    Napoli v Liverpool (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool play Italian outfit Napoli in their second Champions League group stage tonight.

The Reds beat PSG in their opening game while Napoli were held to a goalless draw by Red Star Belgrade.

There's already been plenty of tit-for-tat between the two managers pre-game.

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed praise from Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti as "tactics" before the two sides' Champions League Group C tie.

Ancelotti called the Reds "one of the strongest teams in Europe", before the match in Naples on Wednesday.

"I like Carlo Ancelotti. In Germany, we say he's a smart fox," said Klopp.

"He's said very positive things about us and nice things about me before a game. It's nice, but it's tactics. Carlo is so long in the business."

The German added: "We're ready for a real battle.

"I don't care too much for what people say about us or how they see our situation. This is a fantastic manager, a fantastic team and an emotional crowd so that will be a real challenge."

  20. GMP respond to Mourinhopublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Man Utd 0-0 Valencia

    Manchester United

Jose Mourinho bemoaned Greater Manchester Police's lack of escort for the United team bus, which resulted in the squad being late for their own home game, delaying kick-off by five minutes.

The Portugeuse said: "We left the hotel at 6pm hoping that 30 minutes would be enough, which normally it is," said Mourinho.

"This time the police refused to do an escort so we came by ourselves."

However, GMP have responded, saying they have stooped providing the service to focus on "core policing responsibilities".
