Hoffenheim 1-2 an City
Manchester City
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Manchester City stalwart David Silva.
The midfielder scored a late winner to secure City's first win - and points - of the competition this season.
"He is one of the best players I have trained in my life," said Guardiola.
"I am a lucky guy to have many of them who are top players at Barcelona and Bayern Munich and he is in that list.
"In terms of mentality, I love the players who in the bad moments step forward and say 'I am here guys' and he is one of them.
"I am so happy for him. He deserves all of my respect."

BluenoseGreigMMA: 23rd of October, 1988 Scottish League Cup Final. Rangers beat Aberdeen 3-2 to win, my first live cup final watching Rangers. McCoist scoring right at the end
Hartley Taylor: around the time I was hanging up my boots, I played one last season for 'Nichols XI' and came on as a sub around the 60min mark as we were about to take a corner. Lewis Muirhead took the corner and I scored a screamer of a header Ruud Gullit would have been proud of!
Inter Plymouth FC: Last season, having been 5-2 down we beat Tamar View on pens in the cup. Then a week later, we got our first ever league win, 3-2 against Plymouth United Res.
Man Utd 0-0 Valencia
Manchester United right-back Antonio Valancia has posted a message in support of his manager Jose Mourinho.
The tweet comes after the Ecuadorian and United captain 'liked' an Instagram picture of himself.
However, the lengthy caption for the image included "it's time for Mourinho to go".
The supposed mistake was instantly picked up on by fans.
Valencia said: "Yesterday, I liked a post on Instagram without reading the text that accompanied the picture.
"These are not my views and I apologise for this. I am fully supportive of the manager and my team-mates.
"We are all giving our everything to improve the results."

Fave October memory was playing a charity five a side game. Women v Men but all players had to dress as the opposite ***. Never seen so many fish nets and moustaches on a pitch. And the 'men' won!

Juventus 3-0 Young Boys
Elsewhere in Manchester United's group...
Juventus are top of Group H after a routine victory over Young Boys at the Allianz Stadium.
The Italian giants won 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Paulo Dybala. Juve were without suspended Cristiano Ronaldo.
It was the same winning margin United managed when they opened their Champions League campaign in Switzerland.
Who remembers the chicken pitch invader at Ewood Park back in May 2012?
Blackburn Rovers were playing Wigan in the Premier League and the chicken was wearing a Rovers flag.
Rovers were relegated to the Championship that day, after losing to Athletic.
It was in protest at the club's owners Venky's, an Indian company that specialises in chicken meat processing.
So, Steve Bruce had an unfortunate encounter with a cabbage at Villa Park last night, during his team's 3-3 draw with the Championship's bottom side Preston North End.
The cabbage was chucked at Bruce from the stands after Villa threw away a two-goal lead.
It can't have been nice for under-pressure Bruce, but it's not the first time an object of some sort has been launched from the crowd.
It's got us thinking about weird football protests over the years...

Jon Batham: Re Jake Leslie 8:11 like Jake I have been a #ManUtd, external fan for 40+ years and agree we support the team win, lose or draw, but still think #Mourinho, external has to go. I can live with not winning but his sterile brand of football just isn't United's DNA
The Bruised Banana podcast: We beat Villa 3-1 in October 2004 to go 49 consecutive league games unbeaten. Can't remember what happened in the next game...
Remy Cee: Made a phenomenal save (best save of my life), flinging myself across the goal from right to left, off a volley from the opposition striker who I'd decided wasn't going to score that day. I was however the central defender; and got promptly sent off.
Oh, Remy
Ajax travelled to Munich on Tuesday night and came away with a 1-1 draw.
They are sitting above the Germans in Group E after Noussair Mazraoui cancelled out Mats Hummels' fourth-minute goal.
Prior to this game, Ajax had lost four of five away games to German teams in the competition.
Bayern failed to win three consecutive home games in the Champions League for the first time since November 2009.
Can the Dutch keep up this form in Europe and make it through to the knockout stages?
Meanwhile, Real Madrid endured a disappointing night in Moscow.
The defending champions were beaten 1-0, despite enjoying 72% possession and managing 26 shots. Only four were on target.
As a result, CSKA top Group G with four points, while Real are second with three.

Thomas Maxwell: why is nobody talking Bayern vs ajax? Ajax are top of their group after a really good performance away from home. Could've won.
Hang on Thomas, I'm coming to that
Hoffenheim 1-2 Man City
Manchester City fell behind after just 43 seconds in Germany, but a Sergio Aguero equaliser later in the first half brought the Blues back into the game.
Hoffenheim probably thought they were able to hold on for at least a draw, but David Silva had other ideas, as he latched on to a defensive error to score in the 87th minute.
That strike secured City's first Champions League points of the season, following their loss to Lyon in the first round.

Matty BHaFCseden: Favourite October footballing memory.. BRIGHTON 5 - 0 Norwich A @GM_83, external hat-trick at the Amex.
I've been going to spurs over 20 years and without question the best night I've had at white hart lane was when spurs beat Inter Milan 3-1 (October 2010). Gareth Bale was unplayable that night
Gavin Hinder
Man Utd 0-0 Valencia
So, Manchester United have now gone four games without a win at home. That's 54 days.
There appeared at least a bit more about them last night compared to their flat performance against West Ham at the weekend, with a passionate pre-game huddle and more intent in front of goal.
But no goals came, and the players were booed at the final whistle by pockets of a frustrated Old Trafford crowd.
And if Valencia had been tidier with their finishing, it could well have ended up a much more disastrous night for Jose Mourinho's men.

Gaz Darlington: Jose will bemoan he doesn't have the defenders to play out from the back but then won't comment on his golden pair, the pedestrian Matic and Fellaini in midfield who need 5 touches before they can even pass a ball 5 yards sideways Jose is playing to get his pay day.
Jake Leslie: United fan here, I've been a fan since a very long time, I know we are not performing well but we support the team if they win lose or draw. Fed up of people saying get him out or get this guy out, it's the whole team not one player or one manager. True fans agree.
Sibear71: Watched United last night. There is no outlet down the right channel. Sanchez is useless. Valencia can't get past a man to cross. Have we no pacy right wingers, and if not why not?
Man Utd 0-0 Valencia

Another day, another discussion about a lacklustre Manchester United performance.
We could go with the usual questions such as how much longer can Jose Mourinho hold on to his job? And we still will.
But because I am keen to bring some joy to this very grey-looking autumnal early October day here in Salford, I want to know your favourite October football memory?
Go on, tap into those memory banks. Did your side record a famous Champions League win? Or did you score a hat-trick in a Sunday league game to see your team through to the next round of the cup?
Get involved.
Let's take a look at the papers elsewhere in the continent.
Spanish paper Marca features Real Madrid's shock 1-0 loss to CSKA Moscow, with a mention of Valencia's dogged draw with Manchester United.
Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport, meanwhile, focuses on Juve's comfortable win over Young Boys. They are in the same group as United, remember.
