So this round of Championship fixtures starts with an entertaining win for Aston Villa.

They rise to 13th in the table while Bolton stay in 19th position.

James Chester scored a goal and made a great clearance on his own line for Villa.

The Man of the Match told Sky Sports:

"I'm pleased to get a good performance under my belt, but the three points are more important today.

"We've had some good performances and not had the win so we'll take three points."

On his first goal since April 10 Jack Grealish told Sky Sports:

"It’s about time.

"It’s been around 16 games now and the manager's said I need to get on the scoresheet and get more assists, but the main thing was to get the three points and put in a performance."

A goal in either half settle this one for the home side.

Jack Grealish got Villa off to a great start as he scored after four minutes, before James Chester's second-half header sealed it.

Bolton deserved to at least get a goal - they forced a great goal line clearance from Chester in the first half and had a couple of decent chances, but it;s now just two goals in nine games for Phil Parkinson's side.

Josh Magennis tries to wrap his foot around the ball and curl one in for Bolton, but it goes wide.

The Trotters deserve at least a goal tonight.

Jonathan Kodjia's relatively poor night has just been capped off by a silly dive on the touchline.

He's got the free kick, but Villa waste it.

Jack Grealish gets a standing ovation as he is taken off, with Glenn Whelan coming on.

The star man got his first goal since April to give Villa an early lead.

Meanwhile the fourth official has indicated that there will be five minutes of stoppage time.

Bolton go close to getting one back.

Jonathan Kodjia gives the ball away and Christian Doidge has an effort well blocked by Axel Tuanzebe.

Villa look for a third and Conor Hourihane blazes one with his left foot high over the bar.

You'd say the result is not in doubt now, although Bolton are still searching for what would be just a third goal in nine games.

Fantastic tackle by Axel Tuanzebe as he cuts out Christian Doidge as the Bolton forward went through on goal.

Villa clear the resulting corner and charge up field but cannot create a chance.

David Wheater brings down Yannick Bolasie and the Villa man goes flying.

Wheater goes in the book, free kick 30-odd yards out which Conor Hopurihane takes, but he plays it short and Villa cannot capitalise.

Final roll of the dice for Bolton as Christian Doidge comes on to add some attacking impetus. The former policeman replaces Erhun Oztumera as Bolton move to a 4-4-2.

It’s still not exactly party time at Villa Park.

You’d think this game is now done and dusted after Villa’s second goal, but the home fans have seen enough painful sights here over the years not to go counting too many chickens!

There remains a quiet, rather nervous buzz around the ground - and the odd anxious gasp whenever Bolton cross the halfway line.

Maybe the introduction of Yannick Bolasie will liven things up a bit!

Yannick Bolasie comes on for a ninth substitute appearance of the season for Villa. The Everton loanee replaces Albert Adomah.

Bolton finally have a bot of possession in the Villa half and Craig Noone blasts a shot just wide from the edge of the box.

Villa still on top at the moment though - looks like Yannick Bolasie could be coming on.

Bolton make their second change as Clayton Donaldson gets a rest up front, Josh Magennis gets the final 20 minutes.

Another miss for Jonathan Kodjia as he gets the wrong side of Pawel Olkowski and goes through on goal.

The ball was bouncing, but someone in row Z of the Holte End was diving for cover.

Soon after Villa get the ball into the box and Albert Adomah has an overhead kick which floats just over the bar.

Lloyd Dyer comes on for Bolton to replace Will Buckley.
