    Another attack from Port Vale. This time Ben Whitfield gallops down the left wing and plays a cross in towards Tom Pope at the back post. However it's too powerful and he heads wide.

    There's more drama as Sunderland's Jack Baldwin puts a challenge in on Luke Hannant in the box and no penalty is given.

    Ben Whitfield runs down the right wing, beating two Sunderland markers and works his way into the box and strikes the side netting from close range.

    Port Vale are doing well to maintain the pressure on Sunderland and are firmly camped in the final third but they're having difficulty finding a way through to have a realistic shot on goal.

    Neil Aspin's side will be quite happy with how this is panning out five minutes into this second half.
