Toni Duggan has been a central figure in these first 45 minutes. The England striker slotted the only goal, and might have had one or two more.

It's been mostly one-way traffic, and has highlighted just how difficult it is for an amateur side like City taking on a fully professional outfit like Barca.

The half concludes much the same way as it has proceeded for the past 45 minutes, with Barcelona carving out another chance. This time it is Alexia Putellas cutting in off the right flank onto her left foot, and curling an effort inches wide of the far post.

Possibly City's best - and only - chance so far, but Kirsty Howat fires wide.

Barcelona whip another great ball right across the face of the City goal, but there are no takers. Toni Duggan then lets fly from well outside the box, but it doesn't really trouble Lee Alexander.

You feel City will do well to get to half-time only trailing by a single goal.

Barcelona captain Vicky Losada (pictured) is running the show in midfield, spraying passes to either flank. She works space for Natasha Andonova to try her luck, before Alexia Putellas lets fly from long range, but Lee Alexander gets down well to it.

City forward Abbi Grant gets a ball smack in the back of the head from Barca's Patricia Guijarro as she tries to intercept a clearance. Fortunately Grant is back up on her feet after a spot of treatment.

Brighter moment for City as Hayley Lauder plays a neat through-ball but Kirsty Howat can't quite reach it before Barca keeper Sandra Panos.

Barcelona are using the full width of the pitch, spreading play from one flank to the other. A right-wing cross finds Andressa Alves, and she works space for a left-foot shot, but City keeper Lee Alexander deals with it comfortably.

What is frightening is that as Barcelona show the undoubted gulf in class between them and the Scottish champions, they aren't even the best team in their league.

Last season's Spanish champions, and current league leaders, Atletico Madrid lost 6-0 at home to Wolfsburg last night, going out 10-0 on aggregate.

And even Wolfsburg can't stop Lyon's dominance. The French side have won the Champions League three times in a row, and last night cruised past Ajax 13-0 on aggregate.

In order to enjoy it, they need to see far more of the ball than they saw in the energy-sapping defeat in the first leg.

City at least are on a much tighter pitch this time, but Barca are still doing a very good job of keeping possession and finding space.
