  7. 'We did what we needed'published at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Palace 2-0 Burnley

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to Match of the Day: "I’m delighted because we played very well, we have had teams on the rack at home and not got the win we needed, so it was good to get a win after a good performance.

"It’s good to see the team playing well, and I didn’t think we were going to relinquish our grip and let them back in. We did what we needed to do and I am delighted we won it with such a good goal.

"There were some good saves from Joe, which we would have expected when you play against old friends. It was a game we needed to win, but though we haven’t played that badly, we have not taken the points.

On strikers and options in attack: "We have Alexander [Sorloth] and Jordan [Ayew], and Christian Benteke, who is only three or four weeks away from fitness. Strikers are gold dust, they get you over the line, and we will always be on the lookout but I don’t think we are as bad as our position would suggest, and I think our performance today showed that."

Arsenal v Tottenham (Sun, 14:05 GMT)

    Patrick Jennings
    BBC Sport correspondent

Ahead of tomorrow's north London derby, BBC Sport spoke with some of the people who know Arsenal boss Unai Emery best.

The picture they paint is of a football obsessive, a man spurred on by his failure as a player and who lives now for just two things: family and success.

  9. 'We have been unlucky'published at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Leicester 2-0 Watford

    Watford

Watford manager Javi Garcia speaking to Match of the Day:

In the last games we are leaving with similar situations and we need to try and improve and finish better and then these games will maybe finish better for us. Today was a good performance in the beginning with more possession, 62%, but it wasn’t enough because we didn’t shoot on target. We are around the goal posts but didn’t finish and we need to improve in that situation.

It is frustrating but now we cannot do anything we need to focus on the next game against man ity and be ready. We try to be demanding and be ready.

    On refereeing decisions:

I prefer to keep my opinion (to myself) because in the last games we have been unlucky with these decisions. I could see better for the Capoue red card and it is important the other player, Iheanacho said he didn’t touch him then maybe we can find a solution.

Every game we have to play is very demanding and we know this but at this moment we have to know we could do it in the beginning and we can do it in the future. Beating Manchester City is difficult but with the support of our fans we can do it.

  11. 'We want to continue our way'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Leicester 2-0 Watford

    Leicester City

More from Leicester manager Claude Puel:

On James Maddison: "He was very upset with himself [for getting a red card last week] and wanted to make a strong game with quality to give to his teammates a good performance as well.

"We played against a direct opponent and we are close in the table so it is difficult in the Premier League so we cannot have an objective only to continue our way with clean sheets and a good mentality and we will see later (where we end up).

On Etienne Capoue's red card: "The referee took his decision, we have had a lot of sending offs against us since the beginning of the season but it had no consequences on the game as we were at the end of the game and winning 2-0.

"We have had sending’s off that were difficult to manage for us but at this moment we have a fantastic mentality and positive attitude."

  12. 'We have a fantastic mentality'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Leicester 2-0 Watford

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Claude Puel speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"The win was important against a strong opponent with a direct style and we forced them to open their lines. It was difficult but we managed it well and made a fantastic counter attack move with great goals and a good clean sheet.

"We need to have a different response against any opponent. We needed to be strong and deeper than the last game but we needed to have the game to play counter attack to adapt to the opponents style.

"It was a fantastic goal, the two goals were from counter attack simplicity and good runs into a space with good understanding between players. It was perfect.

  13. 'West Ham signings made the difference'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Newcastle 0-3 West Ham

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is very clear today again. Take your chances and don't make mistakes. Even after the first goal we had chances. They have spent the money on offensive players and they made the difference. When you are more open they have pace and can make the difference.

"We are working on (signings in January) that but it is a question of money. What they spend, what we spend, you can see that on the pitch. I cannot complain of the effort of the players or the commitment but again today we had chances, but they scored theirs.

"We cannot put our heeds down. It is a battle. We will show the same character as we do in every game."

  14. 'Our "Eye of the tiger" has gone'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Palace 2-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche speaking to BBC Sport: The best side won, simple as that. We are in the position where the eye of the tiger has gone, last season everyone was on it.

"To get the eye of the tiger back, a boxer has to get back in the gym. We’ve got to get back on the training ground and work hard.

"It's frustrating, they have given so much to the cause but then fear comes in, it’s a tough thing. It plays tricks with you, and players get stretched as individuals.

"We have to be a team, and we are a bit stretched at the moment. The effort’s good, but it’s a but misguided at the moment, we have to remind them how they can play."

  15. 'That one was for him'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Leicester 2-0 Watford

    Leicester City

Leicester midfielder James Maddison speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"That goal was right up there especially after a disappointing week last week. I knew the best way to bounce back was to get a goal. It was a good team goal, a counter attack and luckily I had the quality to tuck it away so I am really happy with that one.

"I made a mistake last week, and I was the first one to hold my hands ups, I needed to make an impact to make amends and thankfully I did that and hopefully that is in the past now.

On Sophie Taylor, the young mascot: "Sophie is a young girl who had cancer and I met her last year when we played Aston Villa and I was with Norwich. Me being a footballer who takes time out of his own life to help her I could see it what it was doing for the family and the smile on her face. She is a cheeky young girl but she is brilliant. I took her in the changing room to meet all the lads.

"I pointed to the heavens for Khun Vichai - he came into the changing room before the tragedy and said my number 10, you are due a goal. That one was for him.

"We know the schedule over the Christmas period is tough so it is good to get the three points today so hopefully it can push us on in such a busy period."

  17. 'It feels like a big one'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Huddersfield 1-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton: "We were good after conceding the early goal. When they went down to 10 men you have to try and capitalise on that. It was completely different this week. We played against 10 men last week and didn't do enough on the ball but we did today.

"It is difficult because when you are the team with 11 men but we made the extra man show and Florin Andone's goal was excellent.

"We thought we would benefit from his runs in behind but we need a centre-forward and it has been Glenn Murray who has been that for us too.

"It is an important three points away from home. It is important we are picking up points. It feels like a big one for us as well."

  19. 'Football is no fun'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Huddersfield 1-2 Brighton

    Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield manager David Wagner speaking to Sky Sports: "We have to accept the referee's decision and he thought it was a red card.

"The next big decision was a clear penalty on Alex Pritchard and a red card because it was a clear chance. We only discuss referees decisions.

"All the big ones against us he got wrong. This is why at the moment football is no fun. Absolutely no fun. The referee has a big part to play and I don't think he did his best. Even if he didn't mean to.

"I have nothing to say other than look at these situations. Where does the neutral judge it? I don't like to be disrespectful but I don't want to discuss anything else apart from the referee's decisions.

"We don't have to discuss anything in football, nothing."

  20. Pellegrini very satisfied with winpublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2018

    Newcastle 0-3 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BBC Sport: "Really satisfied because the team played a very good game. We scored three and create four or five clear chances. We kept a clean sheet which we haven't done very often this season. They didn't create many chances.

"If you keep a clean sheet you can play different. We work hard during the week and today we played in the way we need if we don't want to concede goals.

"We arrive with the World Cup and Javier (Hernandez) was five weeks ill. It is not easy to recover his best moment but he is a scorer. When I start with him today because before that he could not play a complete game. I am happy for him.

"Felipe (Anderson) played a very good game also. He scored one and had a lot of important passes. He is more used to the Premier League and is improving every game.

"The worst mistake is to think the future is regular for us. We need to play the next game in the same way as today. An important three points but it is not enough. We need to think to the next game and three more."
