    Quote Message

We’re just going game by game. We started slowly and poorly but now we’re building momentum. Erin came up with two fantastic goals, but the defence has been immense all season as well.

  5. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

    Arsenal Women 1-2 Chelsea Women

There goes the whistle - Chelsea have hung on and thrown the WSL title race wide open.

It might have been a different matter if Arsenal had played the rest of the game the way they attacked the final 10 minutes.

But Erin Cuthbert's brace ensures Chelsea get a measure of revenge for October's 5-0 defeat, despite Vivianne Miedema's record-equalling 15th league goal of the season for Arsenal.

    Arsenal go close again!

Kim Little threatens to race clear in the box but is denied by a vital last-ditch tackle from Magdalena Eriksson.

A crucial. crucial intervention that might just have secured the points for Chelsea.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 89 mins

Superb reactions from Chelsea keeper Hedvig Lindahl to keep the visitors ahead.

Vivianne Miedema surges past two Chelsea defenders into the area and stays on her feet despite appearing to be pulled back. But her near-post shot is superbly turned around the upright by Lindahl.

Chelsea hanging on. When they really shouldn't be.

  8. CHANCEpublished at 88 mins

    Arsenal Women 1-2 Chelsea Women

With Arsenal committing players forward, Chelsea break through Fran Kirby but her shot is too close to Gunners keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.

There will be a few minutes of stoppage time to come - and you fancy there's another goal in this.

  9. CLOSE!published at 86 mins

    Arsenal Women 1-2 Chelsea Women

    A great chance for Arsenal!

A near-post free-kick reaches Miedema and, slightly unsighted, she does well to direct a header on goal from around eight yards but Chelsea keeper Hedvig Lindahl dives to her to keep it out.

  10. Blues breached - finallypublished at 85 mins

    Arsenal Women 1-2 Chelsea Women

That goal ended a proud Chelsea defensive record that has seen their back-line fail to be breached for an amazing three months - and the last team to score against them?

    That's right: Arsenal.

The Gunners' Jordan Nobbs was the last player to score against the Blues, all the way back on 14 October, when Arsenal ran out impressive 5-0 winners.

That was one of nine goals England midfielder Nobbs netted in a scintillating start to the campaign - but, sadly, her season was prematurely ended, and her hopes of playing in this summer's World Cup cast into doubt, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in November.

  11. Magnificent Miedemapublished at 83 mins

    Arsenal Women 1-2 Chelsea Women

That is Arsenal top scorer Vivianne Miedema's 15th league goal of the campaign - equalling the record season's tally set last year by Birmingham City's Ellen White.

The Netherlands striker has eight more games - plus the rest of this one - to surpass that mark. You suspect she will.

Well. It wasn't quite over after all then.

This could be a testing last 10 minutes for Chelsea now. They should have been out of sight.

Instead, Arsenal are right back in it as Kim Little surges into the right side of the area and lays the ball on a plate for Vivianne Miedema to tap home from close range.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 79 mins

    Arsenal Women 0-2 Chelsea Women

Chelsea's Sophie Ingle is booked for a tackle from behind on Katie McCabe.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

Arsenal bring on Denmark winger Katrine Veje for defender Janni Arnth in a last throw of the dice from Gunners boss Joe Montemurro.

The hosts are enjoying a bit more possession in the final third and a goal would make the last 10 minutes interesting - but Chelsea are defending superbly.

  15. Postpublished at 76 mins

    Arsenal Women 0-2 Chelsea Women

"Champions of England" is the chant going around from the visiting contingent of supporters - and Chelsea are giving themselves a real chance of defending that title.

That eventuality seemed unlikely when they dropped several points at the start of the season with a string of draws and that 5-0 loss to Arsenal.

But six straight wins have propelled them right back into the mix - this would be the seventh and arguably the most important of the lot.

  16. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Arsenal Women 0-2 Chelsea Women

Amazingly, Arsenal - who average more than four goals a game in the WSL this season - have failed to register a single shot on target today with just 20 minutes of the game remaining.

They did just earn a corner - which Chelsea keeper Hedvig Lindahl did not exactly deal with convincingly - but the Blues were able to scramble it clear.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 69 mins

    Arsenal Women 0-2 Chelsea Women

Cuthbert won't be taking home the matchball today though - she's been substituted, with Ali Riley coming on in her place. Fran Kirby also enters the fray in a double substitution from the visitors.

  18. goal

GOAL (Arsenal Women 0-2 Chelsea Women)published at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

    Erin Cuthbert (63 mins)

    Chelsea celebrateImage source, Rex Features

That could well be it. Erin Cuthbert keeps her eyes on the prize to volley home a dropping ball from around 15 yards.

It's a fine strike from the Scotland international - but Arsenal will be doubly disappointed with it.

Firstly, Louise Quinn failed to get much purchase on a clearing header from Sophie Ingle's cross. And then Cuthbert's volley seemed to go through Arsenal's French keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.

It's hard to see Arsenal getting back into it from here.

  19. Bench envypublished at 60 mins

Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro must be gazing over enviously at the Chelsea bench.

The Blues have the luxury of calling on England hotshot Fran Kirby if they need to.

Injuries mean Arsenal's bench is short on attacking options, and their chief goal-getter Vivianne Miedema - the WSL's top scorer with 14 league goals this season, remember - has barely had a sniff.

  20. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 55 mins

    Arsenal Women 0-1 Chelsea Women

Just for a moment, Chelsea think they have doubled their lead as Beth England nods home Karen Carney's floated cross.

But the assistant's flag is up for offside - and TV replays prove that is the correct decision.

Another let-off for Arsenal, though, who can count themselves fortunate to still be in this game.
