Chelsea boss Emma Hayes was unruffled by the Blues' 5-0 loss at home to Arsenal earlier this season, insisting it was just a one-off.

How right she has been proven.

Chelsea have not conceded a goal in 12 games in all competitions since that day. Quite remarkable.

    Another injury scare for Arsenal.

Lisa Evans is the recipient of a hefty - but fair challenge - from Chelsea's Magdalena Eriksson.

The right-back is up but she's limping a bit.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

Beth Mead has not reappeared for Arsenal after suffering that knee injury right near the end of the first half.

    She's replaced by Emma Mitchell.

But it's another injury that Arsenal - already light on numbers - can ill afford.

Arsenal get the second half under way, knowing they need at least an equaliser to protect their hold on top spot in the WSL.

Anything else will open the door for Manchester City later.

While Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea wrestle for supremacy at the top of the WSL, it's important not to forget that there are four horses in this season's title race.

Fourth-placed Birmingham City began Sunday level on points with Chelsea - but they have suffered a big blow this week with the news that manager Marc Skinner is leaving the club for America.

Arsenal and Chelsea avoided each other in Saturday's draw for the League Cup semi-finals - as both were handed home ties in the last four.

Holders Arsenal will host Women's Championship leaders Manchester United - who are making their League Cup debut this season - while Chelsea welcome fellow WSL high-fliers Manchester City in a mouthwatering semi-final line-up. The games will be played on 5/6 February.

The draw was made at half-time of the EFL Championship fixture between Sheffield United and QPR at Bramall Lane - which will be the venue for the final on 23 February.

  8. Today's WSL fixturespublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

Today's early kick-off is one of five fixtures in a full Women's Super League programme.

And Manchester City's players could be forgiven for taking a bit of time out from their pre-match preparations to watch the second half here at Meadow Park.

City would go top of the league with a victory at West Ham later on Sunday - if Arsenal are unable to find a goal in the second 45 minutes against Chelsea.

Erin Cuthbert's 26th-minute header has given Chelsea a deserved lead at the interval.

And it's not only the Blues of London who will be smiling - the blue half of Manchester will be quite pleased with proceedings here too.

The magic sponge seems to have done its trick and Mead is back on - which will bring sighs of relief from anyone of an Arsenal persuasion.

Things are going from bad to worse for the Gunners.

England midfielder Beth Mead seems to have hyper-extended her knee in stretching to block a Chelsea clearance.

She is getting lengthy treatment from the physio - and this could be another addition to Arsenal's seemingly never-ending injury list.

Only a last-ditch intervention from Arsenal centre-half Janni Arnth denies Chelsea striker Beth England a clear run in on goal.

Arsenal need to get to half-time without conceding another goal here. Given Chelsea's defensive excellence, it would be a hard road back from 2-0 down.

You won't get many clearer bookings than that. Chelsea skipper Karen Carney reacts to an earlier challenge from Katie McCabe with a blatant bodycheck near the sidelines.

    McCabe felt that one.

  14. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    Arsenal Women 0-1 Chelsea Women

Scotland international Erin Cuthbert has scored one - and she almost had another.

Allowed a free run at the heart of Arsenal's defence, Cuthbert let fly from 20 yards but her effort whistled just wide.

It's all Chelsea here - and the Blues are seeking a penalty as Drew Spence tumbles over Louise Quinn's leg. But their appeals are half-hearted and nothing is given.

"There's only one Leah Williamson," is not a chant Arsenal fans can sing today - it appears there are several of them!

Williamson is making her 100th Arsenal appearance - although it is not quite going to plan.

The way are Chelsea are flocking forward, the Gunners could do more with a few more Williamsons in their back-line rather than on the terraces.

    That goal had been coming.

Chelsea had pumped in several balls, low and high, from the right that Arsenal had managed to survive, by luck or by judgment.

But this time Blundell's delivery was pinpoint and Cuthbert timed her run and header to perfection.

Chelsea lead - and deservedly so!

It's another cross from the right wing - this time from Hannah Blundell - and on this occasion the Blues make it count as Erin Cuthbert directs a lovely header out of the reach of Arsenal keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.

England boss Phil Neville is among the throngs of spectators at Meadow Park today.

He will be running the rule over players from both sides as England prepare for this summer's World Cup.

Chelsea captain Karen Carney - an England veteran with more than 130 caps - has impressed as much as anyone thus far.

    Arsenal Women 0-0 Chelsea Women

It's a reflection of Arsenal's injury problems that manager Joe Montemurro has only been able to name four substitutes today.

Perhaps it's that or perhaps last month's defeat to Manchester City - Arsenal's only loss of the season - took some of the wind out of the Gunners' sails.

But, whatever it is, Arsenal are not playing with the sort of swagger that delighted onlookers in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Another big opportunity for the Blues - are they going to regret these early misses?

Skipper Carney has been hugely influential so far and her right-wing cross finds Millie Bright unmarked around eight yards out but she can poke a hopeful boot at it and it's comfortable for Gunners keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.
