    Aberdeen v Livingston (19:45 GMT)

Livingston manager Gary Holt, speaking before kick-off, told BBC Sportsound: "It's a massive challenge tonight. A great stadium, a great pitch and a great team. I want to see them play with a smile on their face. We don't ever want to them play with fear. If we do the basics right we tend to get a result."

Holt maintains that avoiding relegation remains Livingston's target.

"We know where we want to get to - guaranteed 10th - and once we get that done we can can then look at where we want to get to."

  5. Cosgrove can be 'focal point' for Donspublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Aberdeen v Livingston (19:45 GMT)

Aberdeen’s boss Derek McInnes says he has recalled Sam Cosgrove "to make sure they Livingston "don’t get it all their own way up there".

"Sam will help us get up the pitch and give us a presence and focal point I felt we lacked on Saturday," he told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound.

McInnes is also hoping Niall McGinn, left on the bench against St Johnstone, brings some creativity to his side's attack.

"He had a bit of fatigue but hopefully he’s his normal productive self tonight, he added.

"Everybody’s got a demand and a responsibility to score goals for Aberdeen and for the majority of them, these upcoming games are a chance for them to put their cases forward.

"Livingston are very effective. Even when they’ve lost they’ve been very competitive. It’s going to be a tough game tonight".

  6. An intriguing night ahead...published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

Tonight’s game is not just the first time this season Aberdeen and Livingston go head to head; it is the first time in four years they have met.

Dons boss Derek McInnes said his team looked tired during their weekend defeat to St Johnstone, and they’ll need to rediscover some freshness to get the win this evening that would lift them back into the top half of the league.

After back to back promotions, Livingston have proved a welcome addition to the top division. After taking points off the current top four clubs already this season, Gary Holt’s side will certainly not be daunted by the challenge that awaits them at Pittodrie.

Given all of that, a very intriguing night in the Granite City awaits.

    • St. Johnstone ended Aberdeen's four-game home winning streak in the Premiership at the weekend. The Dons haven't lost two successive league games at Pittodrie since December 2017.
    • Livingston have only scored one goal in their past five Scottish Premiership away games (D2 L3), losing each of the last three without scoring.
    • Six of the last nine Scottish Premiership goals Livingston have conceded have come in the first half, including each of the past three.
  8. Goal-shy strikers frustrate McInnespublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Aberdeen v Livingston (19:45 GMT)

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes seemed distinctly unimpressed by the output from his strikers this season as he looked ahead to tonight's game, and a quick look at the stats shows why.

James Wilson, his star signing on loan from Manchester United? Two goals in 12 games. Stevie May, who arrived with great expectation at the beginning of last season? One in 18. Sam Cosgrove, the beanpole signing from Carlisle in January? Two in 16.

"Every player has had an opportunity," McInnes noted. "They've had enough game time to show their qualities. I would quite like it if my strikers were playing well and scoring goals so that when it comes to picking my team, it's an easy decision to make."

Gary Mackay-Steven is the Dons' top scorer with six goals, but the winger is still recovering from the concussion he suffered against Celtic in the League Cup final at Hampden.

Cosgrove, 22, is entrusted to lead the line tonight with support from May, Scott Wright (no goals in 11) and Niall McGinn, who has also failed to shine so far since his return to the club, with just one goal in 19 outings so far this term.

  12. Can Dons return to top six? Can Livi go fifth?published at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Aberdeen v Livingston (19:45 GMT)

Evening all. Anyone for a midweek Premiership encounter under the lights at Pittodrie?

This game was supposed to take place 10 days ago, but Aberdeen were otherwise engaged in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.

Tonight the Dons could return to the top six with victory over Livingston, but the visitors are hardly likely to make that a formality.

The West Lothian outfit, currently a point ahead of Aberdeen after a stunning first season back in the top flight, could move above St Johnstone into fifth place if they take all three points themselves.
