Real Madrid moved up to third in La Liga after late goals from Casemiro and Luka Modric defeated Sevilla.

The two sides had not played out a draw since 1993 but the game looked to be heading for that outcome as Real spurned several chances to score in a game they dominated.

But, with less than 15 minutes remaining, Casemiro opened the scoring with a stunning long-range effort.

Modric then raced clear in injury time to make sure of the points.

The win meant Real Madrid leapfrogged their opponents in the table, moving them to within two points of city rivals Atletico Madrid, who are second.

While the win strengthened Real Madrid's bid for a Champions League place a title challenge remains a tough ask with leaders Barcelona eight points clear of Los Blancos with a game in hand.

That's officially game over as the referee blows for full time.

All smiles at the final whistle as Real Madrid take the three points that moves them above Sevilla and into third.

Into the first of three minutes added on and Real Madrid are playing this one out quite comfortably. Sevilla are severely lacking in any threat in front of goal.

The weight has visibly dropped off Real Madrid's shoulders with that goal and it's going to take something equally special from Sevilla, who have offered nothing in this half, to deny the hosts victory.

How is this game still goalless?

Vinícius Júnior attempts an audacious chip with Vaclik scrambling but the ball drops just the wrong side of the crossbar. That would have been some goal if it had come off.

Superb clearance by Simon Kjaer as he stabs away a low cross with Karim Benzema waiting to sweep home behind him.

Sevilla are having to withstand some almighty pressure at the moment.

Real Madrid have had 67% possession and are ramping up the action in the final third now. It feels like a goal is coming as we hit the hour mark.

Luka Modric is playing further forward now and having a bigger influence on the game as he looks to take it by the scruff of the neck and make something happen. He tries his luck with a dipping effort but it is into the sidenetting.

Second booking of the game as Ever Banega goes in the book for a foul. From the free-kick, Real Madrid swarm forward in numbers but the final ball is a disappointing one.

Vinícius Júnior cuts in from the right before bending a shot over far corner from a tight angle. It was an ambitious effort, but you feel like it's going to take a moment of magic to decide this one.

Important challenge by Sergio Ramos as he scampers across to clear with Andre Silva lurking. There was a lot of space in that Real Madrid defence with the hosts having committed players forward.

This half starts much like the first with Real Madrid doing all the attacking and Sevilla happy to let their hosts have the ball for now.
