  2. 'Disappointed with Everton'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2019

    Millwall 1-1 Everton

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC One

For 42 minutes it was a poor game. I was disappointed with Everton going forward, they have offered very, very little and it was no surprise that Millwall got the equaliser from a set piece, as that has been their main threat.

Two shots on target, two goals. Both sides might as well have put a sack of potatoes in goal.

That certainly changes the team talk for Neil Harris at half-time for Millwall, but we have a really gritty second half to come.

It's set pieces, we have said it numerous times, the key weapon that Millwall have. Everton very loose in their marking, they are vulnerable from set pieces. Who is picking up the second ball? Lucas Digne is the wrong side.

  7. 'How did he get a free header?'published at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2019

    Millwall 1-1 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Great finish over the top of Pickford. Everton were all over the pitch, how did he get a free header? If Jordan Pickford was on his line I don't think he saves it as it was right in the corner.

I didn't see an equaliser coming before half-time but Millwall do find a leveller.

The Lions play a free-kick into the box, Jake Cooper flicks it on with his head and there's Lee Gregory to send a looping header over Jordan Pickford and into the empty net.

That was the first shot on target by either side. That sums up the quality of this one in the previous 43 minutes.

  11. 'He has to do better than that'published at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2019

    Millwall 0-1 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Unfortunate for Jordan Archer, it was a bad mistake from him. He had a bit of a distraction in front of him but you have to be prepared for that and he has to do better than that.

There is no going away from the fact it was a mistake from the goalkeeper and he has to hold his hand up and say 'I should've saved that, that was my mistake'.

Archer's not happy, he feels Hutchinson ducked under the ball. That's the position Richarlison has been trying to pick up. There is a slight deflection from Hutchinson but the goalkeeper has to save it, or parry it away. It's a bad mistake from the Millwall goalkeeper that has gifted Everton the lead.

GOAL - Millwall 0-1 Evertonpublished at 43 mins

    Richarlison

    Howler.

Everton forward Richarlison gets the ball from Andre Gomes, turns and shoots from 25 yards. It is deflected by Shaun Hutchinson and it bounces towards goal.

The pitch is bad, the ball was bouncing but Jordan Archer just has to do better as he somehow lets the ball squirm under him and into the net. The goalkeeper has a go at his defence but he had to save that.

Very positive stuff from Millwall. They have the intensity, have confidence and at times have posed a threat to Everton.

That was an excellent spell starting with Aiden O'Brien and then just keeping hold of the ball. First real good spell of possession from Millwall.

Milwall keeper Jordan Archer makes a mess out of dealing with a backpass, it loops up into the air and he gets away with it.

Like I said, the pitch is causing some problems.

Mike: Pretty sure when Richarlison signed for Everton, the chance to play Millwall away on a Saturday night in the sleet was what finally swung his decision.

The pitch isn't in good nick. Players are starting to lose their footing and it's breaking up in places.
