Adam: I’m going to justify supporting Millwall in this one in the hope that we will get them in the next round

John: Slightly nervous ahead of the Tim Cahill Derby

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 7 mins

    Millwall 0-0 Everton

Everton had a penalty appeal as Shaun Hutchinson grabbed Michael Keane by the neck. Referee Michael Oliver wasn't interested.

We don't have VAR at non-Premier League grounds in the cup. Suspect a video referee might have given that.

    Millwall 0-0 Everton

Throw-in to Everton, won by Lucas Digne. They'll wish they had Tim Cahill in the centre to get on the end of the long throw... as will Millwall.

Andre Gomes had confidence issues at Barcelona during his time at the Nou Camp too.

Andre Gomes has looked good in spells. Through the Christmas period his confidence left him a little bit. He is certainly a player that can dictate the play for Everton.

    Millwall 0-0 Everton

Everton's Idrissa Gueye tries to turn Shaun Williams and is brought down by the Republic of Ireland midfielder. This could be a feisty one.

Bright start by Millwall with Lee Gregory crossing the ball (albeit into Jordan Pickford's arms) within about 20 seconds.

Everton should win this game with the team they have put out, but when you play away at The Den it is a different kettle of fish altogether. Millwall have got to make this ugly to get anything from this.

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Newport

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis speaking to BBC Sport:

"We should have dealt with that one (the goal) a little bit better, they had a good chance before that too. You have got to give them credit. For 25-30 minutes we completely dominated and you have got to create chances and take opportunities, and we didn’t finish them.

"There has been a bug around the place and one or two players and staff have suffered but I don’t want to take anything away from Newport today, they kept it going until the last minute and I am disappointed we conceded late on.

"We need to make sure everything is cleared up with illnesses and move on. John Obi Mikel did smashing, that was his first game for a long time. He is so composed on the ball, he lifts the rest of the team, he is that type of player.

"Obviously there has been a lot of talk about me and Michael (Flynn) but it was a game and once the game starts you want to win."

    Manchester City 5-0 Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "It was not about us, it was about them - they have elite players and they are so clinical.

"We patched together a team today so I'm not too disgruntled. We are out of the cup, which I have a lot of respect for, but our bigger goal is the Premier League.

"It is very difficult when teams like this play the way they do. Who is going to stop them winning everything if they are in that mood? They are a top, top team and if you catch them on a day like today they punish every mistake you make.

"They punished every chance, but I'm not going to over-think this one, it gets parked quickly, as the bigger fight is the Premier League."

On Matej Vydra's miss that would have made it 1-1: "If he puts that in, I'm not saying we would win the game, but you don't get many golden chances and it just changes the feeling in the stadium and the energy in the sides."

    Newcastle 0-2 Watford

    Newcastle United

    Rafael BenitezImage source, Reuters

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez to BBC Sport: "Obviously we are disappointed. We made a couple of mistakes and conceded two goals in a game that was even and could have gone either way.

"You have to create chances to score goals. But in this game you cannot say we were much worse than them. We just have to realise that we cannot go through with this team, it means we have to now concentrate on the league.

"We have 15 games now to play and we have to be sure everyone is focused and no distractions.

On possible new signings before the transfer window closes: "It’s important to have new faces, but we will see what happens."
