This season has been one long struggle for Ipswich Town, and their form has not suggested that they will rise off the bottom of the table and survive relegation.

The Suffolk side appointed Paul Hurst as boss last summer but sacked him in October.

Paul Lambert replaced him but hasn't been able to mount much of a revival at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys have lost six of their last seven in the Championship - including their past three - and have won just once away from home this season.

This derby has not been kind to the Suffolk side recently; they have not won any of the past 11 meetings - including play-off games - with their last win coming in April 2009.

And they have not come away from Carrow Road with three points in their past eight visits.

It’s already been a bumper week for the city of Norwich, with the release of a trailer previewing the return of comic character Alan Partridge, external to BBC One.

But this East Anglian derby could take excitement levels up another notch in Norfolk.

Victory would increase the odds of the Canaries bouncing back to the Premier League, and nudge rivals Ipswich ever closer towards a likely relegation.

Norwich fans are dreaming of a return to the Premier League after being lifted into the Championship's automatic promotion places thanks to a run which has seen them lose just one of their past 18 league games.

Daniel Farke's side are five unbeaten in the league as they aim to end their three-year exile from the top flight.

They began the weekend top of the Championship, and have a chance to return to the summit after other results went their way over the past couple of days.

First Sheffield United missed the chance to go top after blowing a 3-0 lead in the final 10 minutes at Aston Villa to draw, and then Leeds could only come away with a point from their trip to Middlesbrough.

All that means that a win today would return the Canaries to the summit, and give them a two-point lead over the Whites and a five-point cushion to the third-place Blades.

This may not be the most famous or storied of derbies, but don't mistake that for a lack of passion as Norwich City and Ipswich Town are fierce rivals.

With Norfolk's Canaries aiming to win promotion to the Premier League and Suffolk's Tractor Boys looking like they may slide out of the Championship, this could be the last meeting for a couple of seasons.

Considering the two clubs' respective results this season and recent head-to-head meetings, Norwich would be expected to triumph today.

Add in Ipswich boss Paul Lambert returning to his former club, and it all gets juicier.

But we all know the old cliche - that the form book goes out the window on derby day.

Stick with us and we'll guide you through the next instalment in what's been dubbed by some as the 'Old Farm' derby.
