  3. Weah made the difference - Wrightpublished at 14:57

    FT: St Johnstone 0-2 Celtic

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright on Sportsound: "I'm disappointed for them, but we did ask for an improved performance and I think we got that.

"We created Celtic more problems than Wednesday and, first half, we created the best chance.

"We contributed to Celtic's first goal and the second was on the counter.

"We knew Celtic would up the tempo and I thought we had got over that, but Edouard goes off and Weah comes on and creates a different problem.

"We don't have that luxury and he makes the difference for them.

"We need to not let two successive defeats by the league's top team dent our confidence."

Wright was again prickly when asked about man-of-the-match Zander Clark's performance catching the eye of Scotland head coach Alex McLeish.

Clark was annoyed by national assistant Peter Grant's explanation for why Celtic's Scott Bain and Kilmarnock's Jamie McDonald were preferred to the Saints goalkeeper in November.

"I've got absolutely no interest in talking about Scotland," he said.

"When you have somebody like Peter Grant saying what he said about him the last time, which was totally disrespectful, Scotland can do what they want.

"If they want to pick him, they know where he is."

  4. Rodgers hails 'brilliant' winpublished at 14:46

    FT: St Johnstone 0-2 Celtic

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers on BBC Scotland's Sportsound: "We knew that we had to be patient, while keeping the intensity of our game.

"Eventually, once we tire them out and the spaces open up a bit more in the last 25 minutes, then we took our chances to score.

"An eventful game; players getting injured and playing the last 12 minutes or so with 10 men. And then, there's the red card [shown to Kristoffer Ajer] but with all of that in the mix, it was a brilliant result against a good side

"We have another clean sheet, which is also important."

Asked about the severity of the injury suffered by Odsonne Edouard, Rodgers said: "He got the studs on the top of his foot, so that looks sore.

"Hopefully, he'll come round. He'll probably have a little bit of swelling but apart from that he'll hopefully be okay.

"Ryan Christie has really sore ribs, but kept fighting and kept running. And James Forrest just felt his hamstring really tight, so, we'll just have to assess it.

"It was the importance of adding to the squad and adding to the quality - days like today, we get the benefit."

Zander Clark had three brilliant saves down to his right-hand side and they were brilliant. Diving with strength to keep that ball out and the save from Scott Sinclair on the goal-line and came out to save one with his body also...

For me, that was one of the most enjoyable games that I've been to all season. In the end, Celtic win it by a couple [of goals] but a little part of me wishes St Johnstone had kept that clean sheet...

What a counter attack, and what a goal to seal the victory. With St Johnstone pressing for an equaliser, Scott Sinclair finds Timothy Weah as the visitors launch a lightning counter.

Callum McGregor, offering support on the left, then sends in a low cross for substitute Weah to fire home.

The Celtic substitute, who points to the name on the back of his jersey, has provided a spark as the visitors appeared to be running out of ideas.

Celtic goalscorer James Forrest has signalled to the bench that he's struggling to continue. Our trackside reporter Alasdair Lamont suggests it might be a hamstring injury. If he can't continue then Celtic will see the rest of this game with 10 men as they've used all three substitutions.

    Forrest's day is indeed over.
