    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

It's a position that the fans think they have to strengthen and the'll probably have to do again in the summer. Let's see what Toljan can do and see what ability he has got, coming from a big club like Borussia Dortmund

The disappointing thing from Celtic's point of view is that they have not tested Zander Clark and they will probably have to change it a bit at half-time to break through this St Johnstone defence

    Half-time: St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

Intriguing first period in Perth, with Celtic having 68% of possession but only one effort on target. St Johnstone’s defensive discipline has been exemplary, as it will need to be in the second half to take something from the game. They’re also a threat on the counter-attack, which Brendan Rodgers will be wary of.

It's been a disciplined performance by the home side. They have been largely having to defend, but Celtic haven't managed to open them up and they've had a couple of chances

  9. HALF-TIME St Johnstone 0-0 Celticpublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2019

Chances spurned for both sides, a penalty appeal for Celtic and poor deliveries from set pieces. We've had everything bar a goal in Perth.

Hope springs eternal for the second 45...

  10. Saints' delivery poorpublished at 46 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

St Johnstone have a free kick in a dangerous area after Emilio Izaguirre chops down Danny Swanson. However, as has been the case with the set-piece deliveries from both sides, it's poor and Celtic clear.

  11. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

Two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.

Izaguirre is a lucky man. That's three not violent but near violent challenges he's had and he's got away with them

  13. Celtic lack finishing touchpublished at 42 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

Ryan Christie whips in a dangerous free-kick but St Johnstone repel the danger when a touch from a Celtic player would've taken it past Zander Clark.

From the corner, the visitors fail to profit.

A really good defensive performance by St Johnstone. Young Jason Kerr is taking up good positions and his reading of the game is very good

  16. Awaiting the first goalpublished at 35 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

Ten minutes plus any added time remaining of a fascinating if goalless first half at McDiarmid Park. Two early chances for the hosts, followed by Celtic pressure, a penalty appeal and a flash of brilliance from Oliver Burke.

Shall we see a goal before the break?

  18. CLOSE!published at 32 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

For the first time in the game, Oliver Burke displays his trademark Forrest Gump gallop, speeding away from the St Johnstone defence.

The winger's low centre is parried by Zander Clark before Richard Foster clears the danger. Looks like Burke's Celtic team-mates need to sharpen their sprints to keep up with his lightning counters...

  19. Deadlocked at McDiarmidpublished at 13:00

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

    Alasdair Lamont
BBC Sport Scotland at McDiarmid Park

It might be chilly here in Perth but it’s been all-action so far, with the game flowing from end to end in the early stages. Saints have probably had the best two chances of the match so far, but Celtic are enjoying a lot of pressure and might have had a penalty. The noisy travelling support are willing their team to make the breakthrough.

  20. Note to self...published at 29 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Celtic

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, with a vexed expression, takes his notebook and pen from his jacket pocket and scribbles down something of note.

The visitors have been unable to get someone on the end of a couple of decent deliveries from either flank.

St Johnstone will be ruing those early missed opportunities for Matty Kennedy and Tony Watt.
