Joshua King fluffed his lines last time he took a penalty - scoring one and then missing one in the same game, against Wolves - but the Cherries are back on terms, and nearly grabbed a second when Chris Mepham lost his marker from a corner.

But neither side has imposed their authority on the game - so we could be in for an interesting second half.

Where on earth did that come from?!

Isaac Hayden lets fly from around 30 yards. Artur Boruc doesn't seem overly concerned but the midfielder's shot only just misses the angle between post and bar.

    Bournemouth 0-1 Newcastle (HT)

    Mark Mitchener

Bournemouth are made to pay for a poor attacking set-piece - from which Newcastle broke forward to ultimately score - to end quite an open first half which has featured two pacey, counter-attacking teams, as well as a few tasty tackles.

It's three for the season against Bournemouth for Salomon Rondon, who scored both goals in Newcastle's 2-1 win on Tyneside in November.

    Salomon Rondon

    Lovely strike!

Salomon Rondon scored twice in Newcastle's win over Bournemouth at St James' Park earlier in the season and the in-form striker has opened the scoring here with a delightful free-kick into the top corner of Artur Boruc's net.

It was a clumsy tackle from Ibe in the build-up. Eddie Howe won't be best pleased.

Federico Fernandez and Martin Dubravka get in a muddle and the former is forced to concede a corner.

Newcastle clear the danger, though, allowing Miguel Almiron to run at the Bournemouth defence. The Paraguayan is eventually stopped in his tracks by Jordon Ibe, who is shown a yellow card by referee Mike Dean.

The visitors have a free-kick in a great position on the edge of the area.

No yellow card from Mike Dean. The midfielder can count himself a little fortunate there.
