Everton manager Marco Silva speaking to Match of the Day: "We didn't expect what happened, but it's football.

"Even in the first 15 to 20 minutes in the second half we had counter-attacks - we had to kill the game in that moment.

"If they gave the penalty to Rondon then it should have been a penalty for us when Gylfi Sigurdsson [was fouled]."

On Newcastle's third goal: "I cannot understand five Newcastle players were in the same line and Rondon was offside."

On approaching the match officials at the end of the game: "It was difficult to understand when for one side to decide one way then for the other side it's the opposite way."

  2. Parker laments Fulham errorspublished at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

Fulham manager Scott Parker: "The second half was a massive improvement.

"When we got it back to 1-1 it was us in the ascendancy.

"If anyone was going to get the winner it was us, but we make a mistake and they go on and get the two goals.

"You’re in a league where you make errors and they normally end up in the back of the net. That’s happened to us a lot this year.

"I thought we played very well in the second half, but it doesn’t mean much when you look at the end result."

  3. Pochettino questions 'mentality' and 'fight'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Southampton 2-1 Tottenham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino tells MOTD: "It is so difficult to understand why we changed so much from the first half to the second. I am very disappointing, we were better in everything and then we lose the game. It is about competing better for the first goal if you want to be a contender for big things. The second half we did not take it seriously, I don't want to criticise too much but when you lose a game that was under control after 45 minutes, should be 3-0, 4-0 and finishes in 2-1 defeat, it is difficult to accept.

"We started to take some risks that were unnecessary and that was the main problem. It gave them belief and they started to build their game. When you lose the momentum after 45 minutes, that is about mentality, that is about begin strong and keeping the right. For us, we lost the momentum and gave them relief.

"Their first goal was a cross in front of the goal where four players can put the ball out of the stadium. We were not capable of doing it and it is a tough moment and a tough result.

"This is our reality. People talk about perceptions but we need to realise if you do not fight with intensity for the Champions League, you will struggle. The reality is you cannot only play for 45 minutes, we are a Champions League team, into the quarter-finals. The team does not have the experience of competing in these circumstance, it is good to learn but we have to fight every single opponent.

"We are fighting against big sides (for the top four). We had a big gap, welcome to the reality, we are under pressure to win games. It is a massive challenge for us."

  4. 'A big win'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

Southampton Ralph Hasenhuttl tells MOTD: "We were only 1-0 down but with the two changes at half time we had more speed and forced them into more mistakes. We had more pressure on the counter press and they got a little bit nervous. They tried to play football but it did not work like the first half. The two goals were fantastic.

"What a massive free-kick from James Ward-Prowse, the keeper had not chance. You know he is dangerous and has a big chance to score.

"We have a lot of players on loan and Josh Sims is back and did not have a chance to show me. He deserved to play and I am very happy he grabbed the chance with both hands.

"The opponents are always winning but this is only a step. It is a big win for us and we have a three weeks break, it is a completely different feeling over the (relegation) line. We need more wins in the last eight games."

  5. 'Rondon was offside for the third goal'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Newcastle 3-2 Everton

    Everton

    Marco SilvaImage source, Getty Images

Everton manager Marco Silva on Sky Sports: "Of course this is difficult. We led 2-0 then we had four counter-attacks to kill the game. We kept giving belief to our opponent.

"I told the team even at half time we had to keep doing what we did in the first half.

"We lost some counter-attacks after the break. After we conceded we gave some belief to them.

"When they made it 2-2 the game changed completely. The third goal was offside. Rondon was in an offside position. It's really strange to talk about the situation.

On approaching referee Lee Mason at the end of the match: "They gave one penalty to them but not us when Gylfi Sigurdsson [was fouled]. Then the third goal was clear offside. Rondon was in a clear offside position."

  6. Vardy: 'A lot more hard work to come'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

Leicester centurion Jamie Vardy: "We're trying to win the ball back as quickly as possible. It’s definitely benefited me, but there’s a lot more hard work to come.

"We knew Fulham were going to cause us problems - we've been working on that. For the majority of the game we got the plan spot on."

On his favourite Leicester goal: "There have been a couple – Liverpool at home and West Brom away – but hopefully there’s plenty more to come."

  7. 'The players deserve the run of home wins'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Newcastle United

    Rafael BenitezImage source, Reuters

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez speaking to Sky Sports: "Normally I say to the players stay calm at half time, score one goal and get back into the game.

"In the first half we had chances to score but they scored two goals.

"We changed the shape of the team - with Ritchie on the right and four at the back.

"We were winning more second balls in the second half.

On the penalty incident that saw Jordan Pickford foul Salomon Rondon: "Maybe the referee was right, it wasn't clear Pickford was trying to do that. Was it a yellow card? Maybe."

On his two-goal hero Ayoze Perez: "This team is important. The link between Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon, if Messi was doing that everybody would be talking about the goal.

"The players deserve to win these five games [in a row at home]."

Phil Beck: So since Spurs were apparently "right back in the title race", they've taken one point from a possible 12, and now seriously risk finishing outside the top 4. So Spursy.

Rachel T: Spurs being as beautifully consistently inconsistent as ever.

Mark Notley: Are Tottenham about to redefine being Spursy and turn a title race into 6th place? Their star players may be back but the wheels are falling off in the Premier League

    Dele AlliImage source, Reuters

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli: "It is disappointing. We performed well at the start but were not clinical enough. We dominated the game but could not kill it off.

"We need to keep working and the fans deserve more. We had to win this game but gave them something to latch onto, some belief and after the first one goes in it could go either way.

"There are a lot of top sides in the league and it is going to be tough end to the season. We have to give 100% and there are a lot of things to improve on.

"I am happy to be back fit, it would have been good to get a win."

Asked about the news of the new stadium, Alli said: "We just lost so..."

  10. 'To a man we stood up today'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2019

    Cardiff 2-0 West Ham

    Cardiff City

    Harry ArterImage source, Reuters

Cardiff midfielder Harry Arter: "We outworked them and we had a lot of quality on the ball. We raised our level of performance today. We put things right on the pitch after a hard week in training.

"Rightly so we won and to a man we stood up today. That level of work rate and quality got us the three points.

"From now until the end we need to look at today's performance as a bench mark. No matter what happens we have to give our all.

"Everything we've done this season has been fighting until the end until the last three games. It's always been a united dressing room. There's been no rift in this squad."

West Ham, at best, a poor Championship side

    John, Crawley

Saints coming back to beat to beat Spurs. Just great for all football fans. Thanks Southampton. Tremendous

    Tom

I'm not one of those fans that laughs at others... but hahahaha at Everton. Your fans celebrated a draw against Liverpool like you'd won the League. Just thrown away a two nil lead to lose 3-2. You can go back to celebrating mid-table mediocrity, that's what spending £200m gets you.

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse: "It is hard to put into words, we were lucky to get in at 1-0 at half-time. We changed a few things at the interval and got our rewards at the end.

"The manager told us to be a bit more aggressive, we sat off them a little in the first half. The second half epitomised everything he has done for us so far.

"I spend a lot of time practising the free-kicks and thankfully this has contributed to three points today.

"We have to do our job, Cardiff have done theirs too but the picture looks a little better for us."

Ash: All that moaning from Saints fans earlier, are you happy now that you've won?
