Fair point, well made, Ian. We stand corrected...

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland

Former Newcastle United interim manager John Carver has emerged as a potential candidate to succeed Neil Lennon as Hibernian head coach.

Carver was in temporary charge at St James’ Park on a number of occasions, most recently from January 2015 until the end of that season.

He was a head coach in his own right at Toronto FC in the MLS and the Cypriot club Omonia.

His last role was as Alan Pardew’s assistant at West Bromwich Albion, but he is keen to manage again.

  8. Quiet night at Ibrox?published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

Rangers have had a busy transfer window but Steven Gerrard has suggested that the club aren't expecting to do too much business tonight.

"We got Matt [Polster] in and we are happy with that," Gerrard told Premier Sports on Wednesday night. "He will be a good signing for the club. I think we are done. I don't see any more incomings."

So are you happy with the January dealings Rangers fans? Or are there a few positions you'd like to see the club reinforce before the clock strikes 12? Let us know by tweeting us using the hashtag #bbcsportscot.

  9. Holt surprised by lack of Livi bidspublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Sport Scotland

Livingston manager Gary Holt says he is "delighted, but surprised" that there has been no interest in any of his key players during the transfer window.

“I’m not going lie; I was expecting a few phone calls but nothing. I’m absolutely delighted because I feel we are still fighting and scrapping to stay in this league.”

With a few hours still to go before the window closes, Holt says there may still be some movement with younger players heading out on loan, although nothing is imminent.

    Kenny Macintyre
    BBC Sport Scotland

Few reports flying around that English Championship club Stoke City have had a £7m bid accepted by Aberdeen for Scott McKenna, having had an initial approach rejected yesterday. But BBC Scotland understands that no fresh offer has been received for the Scotland centre-back, far less rejected.

I'm hearing a rumour that Dundee are interested in taking Jack Hendry back on loan from Celtic. Clubs in England also interested and that would be his preferred destination. Will probably be a late deal if it happens.

Also, Ross County want Calvin Miller on loan from Celtic. It's down to the player now.

  15. St Johnstone bring in Bellpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

St Johnstone have brought Partick Thistle goalkeeper Cammy Bell to McDiarmid Park for the remainder of the season.

Bell will undoubtedly be seen as experienced cover for Zander Clark, who took over as first-team keeper this season and has been in superb form for Tommy Wright's side ever since.

  16. Souttar commits to Heartspublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

Craig Levein may be preparing for tonight's Snow Patrol concert, but back at Tynecastle the Hearts backroom staff have clearly been working their socks off. John Souttar has signed a contract extension to keep him at Hearts until 2022.

His previous deal wasn't set to expire till May 2020 but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. Especially when Scottish central defenders seem to be so in vogue at the moment.

  17. Brown puts an end to speculationpublished at 16:44 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

That contract extension will be a big weight off the shoulders of most Celtic fans. Scott Brown was heavily linked with a move to Australian side Western Melbourne.

Does this mean Brown will be back among Brendan Rodgers' starting XI? Is it important that the midfielder finishes his career at the club to cement his legacy?

  20. Robbie's revolution rumbles onpublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

Dundee United haven't been messing around in the January transfer window. Peter Pawlett, defender Mark Connolly, and midfielder Calum Butcher all joined the Scottish Championship club today - which takes their total transfers for the window up to nine.

It remains to be seen whether any of the signings will be of much use to Robbie Neilson between now and May but at least we'll always have this odd signing video from the club. Is Butcher supposed to be Dr Who in a future, techno dystopia? Who knows...
