It's all Atletico Madrid. Thomas Partey gets the ball, surges into the box and then blazes over the bar.

Atleti fans have been throwing those toy rats at Thibaut Courtois. I hope they're toys anyway...

Ooh, Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon is down injured after being caught on the ankle by Santiago Arias. He's OK to continue though (after some treatment).

Atletico Madrid fans have brought toy rats to the game to express their anger at Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois, who spent three years on loan at Atleti.

Atletico start on the front foot and have the first chance of the game but Antoine Griezmann snatches at a shot and puts it into the side-netting. He claims for a corner but the referee correctly said no. It was just a bad shot.

  6. Morata faces old teampublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2019

Alvaro Morata makes his second Atletico Madrid appearance today - against a club he has had two spells playing for.

Morata scored 31 goals in 95 appearances for Real either side of a two-year spell with Juventus.

He has joined Atletico on loan from Chelsea.

A word of warning for Real - Morata has scored on both his previous appearances against them, during that time at Juventus in the Champions League semi-finals.

Vinicius Jr has brought to the side an electricity, a sharpness and bravery Real Madrid did not have.

In my eyes he has got a bit of both Ronaldos.

When he starts running with the ball - the power, the strength, the pace, the control he has with the ball at his feet - is similar to that of the Brazilian Ronaldo.

It doesn't mean he is going to be as good as either of the two Ronaldos and from here he has to have the right mentality, to work hard, be lucky with injuries, and have the confidence of the coaches.

But right now he's got everyone in his pocket. Real Madrid's fans absolutely adore him."

  8. 'Simeone comparisons are pointless'published at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2019

Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has played with and for Diego Simeone - and used to play for today's opponents.

“Comparisons are pointless," the Argentine - who was relegated with Atleti in 2000 - said.

"I respect and admire Cholo. We were team-mates for the national side and he was my coach at San Lorenzo. It's been a wonderful experience for me to share things with him on a professional level, he's got so much to offer.

"Saturday will be a brilliant game, that's all we're concerned with. We'll have to put all our energy into it to compete, we're two teams who love to compete."

Real Madrid are unbeaten in six games - they had won five in a row before Wednesday's El Clasico draw against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.

Atletico saw a 19-game unbeaten run end last weekend when they lost 1-0 at Real Betis last Sunday.

A Real win today would see them overtake Atletico into second place in La Liga.

Real Madrid make three changes from El Clasico on Wednesday - Sergio Reguilon starts at left-back with Marcelo benched, Thibaut Courtois is back in goal and Casemiro takes the place of the injured Marcos Llorente in midfield.

Atletico Madrid make only one change from last weekend's defeat by Real Betis as Diego Godin returns from a thigh injury. He takes the spot of Juanfran in a reshuffled back four.
