First up in the early kick-off are Rangers away to relegation-threatened Hamilton as Steven Gerrard's side aim to narrow the eight-point gap between themselves and Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers' reigning champions follow later at home to in-form Motherwell.

Graeme Shinnie's double for Aberdeen against St Johnstone takes Derek McInnes's side to within Rangers in third place after a seventh straight away win.

St Johnstone miss a chance to reclaim sixth place from Hibs after a sixth game without a win.

With Kilmarnock losing at Livingston - the Ayrshire side are now four points behind Aberdeen in fourth - Hearts would have drawn level with Steve Clarke's side had they not been held at home by St Mirren.

The Buddies' point is more a confidence-booster than anything as they remain four points of Hamilton Academical at the foot of the table.

Livi's one surely secures their place in the Premiership for a second straight season as they are now 16 points clear of Accies in the relegation play-off spot.

Edinburgh City stay a point clear at the top of Scottish League Two thanks to a comfortable two-goal win over Cowdenbeath.

Peterhead, who have a game in hand, stay second thanks to Rory McAllister's only goal of the game away to Stirling Albion.

But third-top Clyde lost pace after David Goodwillie's opener was cancelled out by Euan East's late equaliser for Queen's Park at Hampden Park.

The Bully Wee are now five points behind Edinburgh, although they also have a game in hand and are now unbeaten in 14 games, after being held by a side who now have not won in 14 of their own.

Annan Athletic, now unbeaten in five games, consolidate their place in fourth with a thumping 4-0 win over bottom side Albion Rovers, who have now not won in 19 outings.

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright tells Sportsound he felt his side didn't deserve to lose.

"We deserved something from the game, no question about it," he says. "If Liam [Craig] gets something better on it, he probably scores.

"We were in total control. It's a mis-control then Aberdeen counter on us and it's a good finish from Shinnie.

"The second half was very even, it was end-to-end, we hit the post.

"But we give the ball away cheaply again and it's another great strike from Shinnie. The two goals were certainly preventable."

"Livingston getting the goal in the first half time made it a difficult second half for us.

"We hit the woodwork three times. Sometimes it's not your day, but unfortunately it’s just not been our week.

"A difficult game against Celtic that went to the wire, 70 mins at Ibrox with ten men. It’s difficult in the dressing room, but we’ll bounce back.

Killie have gone seven games without a win, but Clarke added: "Three of the games were cup competitions.

"Where we are in the league is okay. We’re fine, we won’t panic."

Livingston manager Gary Holt tells BBC Sportsound: "You saw two teams creating chances at either end.

"Kilmarnock are a good side, but all in all, I think we were worthy winners.

"Chris Erskine has taken a wee bit of time to score. He made great runs with the ball, looked after it and I’m delighted for him because he can finish. We just need to get the ball to him.

"We have an enjoyable working environment, win lose or draw. I’m pleased we got over the line today and got the three points."

Hearts manager Craig Levein tells BBC Scotland: "We didn't move the ball quick enough, we didn't play with enough intent.

"Our decision-making became cloudy to say the least, so it was a really disappointing day."

St Mirren's equaliser came from an own goal.

"Sean Clare just got caught and confused," Levein says. "I think there was a player holding on to him and spun him around and the ball's hit the back of his head.

"It happens, but I would be really hopeful that we could score more than one goal at home in a game of this nature and, if we had've done, it wouldn't have mattered."

Arbroath had to come from behind twice to beat Airdrieonians, but their 3-2 win maintains the Red Lichties' 16-point lead at the top of Scottish League One.

Raith Rovers keep pace after a 4-1 win over Montrose ends a run of four games without a win.

Forfar Athletic remain level on points with the Kirkcaldy outfit after a narrow win over bottom side Stenhousemuir.

Fourth-placed East Fife slip up despite a spirited comeback from 3-0 down at home to Dumbarton, eventually losing 4-3.

What a difference 45 minutes makes. At half-time, Championship leaders Ross County were heading for defeat and Partick Thistle for a win that would take them further away from bottom spot.

Second-top Ayr United and third-place Dundee United were looking good for at least a point to narrow the gap.

But four second-half goals later and County have stretched their lead to five points - and their unbeaten run to seven games - while Thistle are back on the foot of the table as their own run of five straight wins and seven undefeated coming to an end.

United did manage a draw away to Falkirk and that takes them level with Ayr, who lost at home to Dunfermline Athletic.

A second win in a row under new manager Stevie Crawford has suddenly taken the Pars into fifth place.

Jordan Kirkpatrick's stoppage-time winner gave Alloa Athletic a surprise win away to Queen of the South that takes the part-timers off the bottom and above Falkirk and Thistle.

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney tells BBC Radio Scotland: "Obviously very happy with the performance and the endeavour that was shown.

"We've created some good chances where possibly we could be ahead in the game and you end up with a different outcome. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don't.

"We've been building and building well. We're in a good strong place in relation to training's been good, attitudes have been good.

"We're all fighting for the same cause. I can't ask for anything more, it's just that possible wee bit of luck, how to change these one points into three points."

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "I thought some of our play was good. We had to be competitive.

"By and large, once we got in front, we had control of the game, but you’re never comfortable at St Johnstone. It was an important three points for us."

Captain Graeme Shinnie scored both goals as he contemplates his future with his contract expiring in the summer.

"Shinnie has a lot to think about," McInnes adds. "There’s no doubting his love for the club.

"We have a strong relationship and we’re hoping that will be a big part of any decision he makes. It was great to see him driving into the space that was created.

"But I’ve got to mention Dom Ball, who provides two assists for Shinnie's goals."

Following up their fine point away to Aberdeen, it's another point and morale-boosting performance for St Mirren.

But they may feel slightly frustrated not to have got the win after creating some excellent chances at Tynecastle.

Hearts will also be disheartened, having missed the chance to go level on points with fourth-placed Kilmarnock.
