    Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth

Just a reminder of the job Ralph Hasenhuttl has done as Saints boss, in his first position in English football. He took over in December with the Saints in 18th position and with one win, six draws and eight defeats from their first 15 league matches.

Twenty games later and they could be securing their Premier League status with two matches remaining. Good effort.

  2. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth

The Saints look like they mean business today. Firstly Nathan Redmond has a goal-bound shot blocked by Chris Mepham, and then from the resulting corner it finds its way to Jan Bednarek, whose effort is blocked by Jefferson Lerma.

Southampton are as good as safe, sitting six points above Cardiff and with a much superior goal difference, and I think they will make absolutely sure of staying up on Saturday.

Southampton will be safe with two games to spare if they better Cardiff's result this weekend, while a win would realistically be enough because of a much better goal difference.

Either way, I'm sure Ralph Hasenhuttl would have gladly taken that scenario when he took over in early December with a brief to keep them up.

Saints were in the bottom three at the time and their record of 28 points from 20 matches since then equates to 53 points over a full season. That's usually good enough for a top-half finish.

Who knows what we'll get from Bournemouth, who in the last two games followed a 5-0 away win at Brighton by becoming the first team to lose at home to Fulham all season.

  8. How they standpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 27 April 2019

Bournemouth will definitely be playing Premier League football in 2019-20 and Southampton will secure their league survival if they win and Cardiff fail to beat Fulham.

Realistically, with a far superior goal difference over Cardiff, any Saints win will mean Premier League football for next year too.

It's already job done for Bournemouth with their Premier League safety in the bag.

A win for their opponents Southampton could well be enough for them as well.
