We haven't got in behind enough and the deliveries have been poor. If we get the second goal, San Marino will give up the ghost a bit and it eases the pressure from the Scotland fans. They aren't happy.

And we're back underway at the Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle!

Kenny McLean's header has Scotland in front but the vocal away end will be demanding a few more over the next 45 minutes. Let's see what happens.

Alex McLeish and the team are on a hiding to nothing. Even if we win 6-0 or 7-0, the fans booing have made their minds up. I'd be tempted to get another striker up there alongside Marc McNulty. We need to be more purposeful and aggressive.

Alex McLeish just has to win this one. I want him to get his full squad back for the next game against Cyprus and if Scotland don't win that one, even big Alex will know it's just not happening. It'll be a case of whether he is sacked or just resigns.

    HT: San Marino 0-1 Scotland

Alex McLeish's side have the all-important lead after the opening 45 minutes, but a single goal won't be convincing anyone that Scotland are on the mend.

Kenny McLean broke the deadlock just four minutes into the match, when a front-post cross from Ryan Fraser met the glancing head of the Norwich City midfielder.

The ball nestled inside the back post and suggested the visitors were in the mood for more, but what followed was half chances from San Marino and an injury for towering forward Callum Paterson.

Scotland have lost their way. They need to get back to what they were doing. Use their wide players to get in behind San Marino and get deliveries in the box. There will be a few boos at half-time if it's only 1-0 and that brings pressure on the players.

  8. Another goal before the break?published at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    San Marino 0-1 Scotland

Scotland look relatively comfortable on and off the ball, but the desire to grab a second goal before the break just doesn't seem to be materialising.

Hopeful long balls and misplaced passes in the San Marino half are been greeted with moans and whistles from the away support.

You can hear the Scotland fans voicing their frustration and booing in the background. They won't accept San Marino scoring a goal, that's how crucial it is for Alex McLeish that Scotland keep a clean sheet. The fans want a 4-0 or 5-0 but it's not looking likely so far.

  10. Substitution for Scotlandpublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    McNulty on for Paterson

It seems as though Callum Paterson's injury is more serious than previously assumed. Marc McNulty is the man tasked with replacing the target man, who was enjoying a good game until he was forced to come off.

Paterson was one of the Scotland players that was banned by his club from playing on Kazakhstan's plastic pitch for fear of picking up an injury. A cruel twist of fate for the Cardiff City player.

You will all be delighted to know that the Player Rater will be back for today's game.

The highest-ranked Scotland player against Kazakhstan was Scott McTominay, with a score of 2.69.

    A high bar indeed...

    Paterson limps off the pitch

Scotland's lone striker has walked off the pitch and is receiving medical attention after a collision with an opposing player. It doesn't look too serious.

  13. Hosts hit the side nettingpublished at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    San Marino 0-1 Scotland

Hirsch has an excellent opportunity to level the score, when an outstanding through ball allowed him to sneak in behind Bates, skip past Bain and then fire the ball in to the side netting from a tight angle. First real chance from the hosts.

  15. Over the barpublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    San Marino 0-1 Scotland

Ryan Fraser has looked as though he could do no wrong, but when offered the opportunity to knock in a free-kick on the edge of the San Marino box he unfortunately fired it over the bar. By some distance.

  16. 'Should have scored'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

Great play from Scotland as they went direct to Callum Paterson. Stuart Armstrong should have scored. Movement and passing are good from Scotland, they just haven't taken their opportunities.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2019

    San Marino 0-1 Scotland

Armstrong must have thought he'd scored when Russell played the Southampton midfielder through on goal. However, the San Marino goalkeeper, Benedettini, had other plans with two, outstanding saves to keep the score at just 1-0 to the Scots.

Such a strong left-hand side for Scotland with Andy Robertson and Ryan Fraser. Only Eden Hazard has more English Premier League assists this season than Fraser.

That early goal seems to have settled any Scottish nerves, with McLeish's men looking exceptionally comfortably in the middle of the park.
