He gets a good connection at the back post but his header is easily saved by Mark Gillespie. The fouls continue to rack up as both sides take turns at putting the boot in to disrupt any rhythm.

Aberdeen almost add a second goal as we near the break in Edinburgh. Lewis Ferguson provides a tempting delivery into the box and Sam Cosgrove loops a header goalwards, only for keeper Zdenek Zlamal to touch the ball over the bar.

So often these occasions can be tense, but not today. Both St Mirren and Dundee are going for it, though it is the visitors who are having the better of it.

Craig Curran breaks through the St Mirren defence but Vaclav Hladky is able to get out quickly to block his effort.

Then from out wide, whether it is a cross or a shot, John Sullivan's effort has to be tipped over by the goalkeeper.

The visitors are starting to boss it at Tynecastle. On the back of their opener, Aberdeen sweep up the park again with scorer Connor McLennan trying his luck from distance this time, only to see the ball curl over the bar.

Moments after St Johnstone's missed penalty, Motherwell create their first chance as Tom Aldred meets David Turnbull's corner with a fierce header that flies narrowly over.

Rory McKenzie goes down in the Hamilton box as he tries to get on the end of Aaron Thibola's cross, which was missed by goalkeeper Gary Woods, but referee Andrew Dallas is unmoved.

That looks like a lucky escape for the visitors.
