Celtic come again with James Forrest providing a very decent cross from the right. Mikael Lustig throws everything at it but Rangers skipper James Tavernier does a good job of blocking him off with a brave jump.

Odsonne Edouard follows up with a shot and Allan McGregor punches it away awkwardly when it looked like a routine catch.

Kieran Tierney gathers a lovely pass from Olivier Ntcham and gallops down the left before whipping in a great cross. Ntcham gets on the end of it and his cushioned volley from six yards is kept out by Allan McGregor. It was straight at him but the keeper needed to show good reflexes.

It doesn't take long for Rangers to win possession and get inside the home penalty box as a Ryan Kent cross is cut out by Dedryck Boyata.

Referee Bobby Madden blows his whistle and a colossal roar goes up as the action gets started.

A bit more from Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who tells Sky Sports: "We're confident - we know we're a good team.

"It's all about confidence and belief and we believe we can come here and get the job done.

"We've experienced beating Celtic recently. We should have won that game a lot more comfortably. We're aware Celtic will have regrets from the last derby and will want to make amends.

"It's a day for everyone - it's a collective effort - work hard, run hard, contain Celtic, and hurt them when we can. This won't boil down to an individual today - we need maximum team effort to get a result."

Celtic manager Neil Lennon tells BBC Sportsound he is expecting a big performance.

"I'm enjoying what I’m doing and looking forward to today's game," he says.

"I’m a little bit more experienced and a lot calmer but there's still a lot of pressure riding on today’s game.

"A win gives us a big boost. I’m looking for us to catch fire. The performances have been decent but there’s more to come from the team.

"It's a good game to get Kieran Tierney back in the team because it gets the juices going."

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has a stark warning for his players before the big game.

"We want to win and make the remainder of the season as interesting as we can," he tells RangersTV.

"The message to the players doesn't change; they are all playing for their futures. No one is comfortable here. We will be making changes in the summer, so every time you put the Rangers shirt on you are basically on trial.

"Anyone who gets comfortable and thinks they can just turn up, they leave themselves wide open."

Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard have met before, of course. The interim Celtic boss managed two draws against Rangers this season while in charge of Hibs.

Today's managers have also been opponents on the pitch, with Lennon's Celtic getting the better of Liverpool on their way to the 2003 Uefa Cup final.

Lennon and Gerrard faced off twice in the English top flight, with Leicester holding Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in 1999 and losing 1-0 at Anfield in the following year.

Rangers are without assistant manager Gary McAllister today after the former Scotland captain was assaulted in the street in Leeds last weekend.

"He is recovering well but I think it's better he rests, recovers and gets himself 100 per cent right, and we get Gary McAllister back when he can be the real Gary McAllister," said manager Steven Gerrard on Friday.

"But it's a shame. I wish he was going to be with us."
