A first save (of sorts) for Craig MacGillivray to make.

Lynden Gooch shoots on the turn with his right foot, but MacGillivray does a very nice long barrier to gather that ball that wouldn't have looked out of place in the field at the Ageas Bowl earlier in the cricket.

Ollie Hawkins and Charlie Wyke doing a very good impression of some of the line-out tussles that took place earlier on in the north east at St James' Park where Saracens beat Leinster in the European Champions Cup final.

Sadly, that's not allowed in the round ball game and Hawkins is the man penalised on the edge of the Sunderland box.

Again both teams seemingly trying to rush things on the ball a bit too much.

Bryan Oviedo seeing plenty of the ball out wide left for Sunderland.

He is desperately trying to put dangerous balls into the Portsmouth area.

Charlie Wyke again the hapless man up top with the ball not exactly falling favourably for him inside the penalty box.

A half-chance on the half-volley is snatched at and goes well over the crossbar under pressure from Christian Burgess.

It's evened itself out in the last 10 minutes.

Portsmouth made the better start, but Sunderland have shown signs of coming back into it.

There's just that little bit of composure missing from both sides.

More wasted delivery for Sunderland.

Lewis Morgan this time sees his good work come to nothing as there is nobody there coming on to meet his ball from the left.

Pompey don't mind seeing that go behind for a goal kick.

Again - lots of energy from both sides in midfield to try and create something, but the final ball is just not there.

Portsmouth's turn again to get a sniff of a chance.

Ronan Curtis steals the ball on halfway and then Ollie Hawkins held it up to get it back to him in the box.

But Curtis goes for something halfway between a cross and a lob and it's a tame one for Jon McLaughlin to gather.

Best chance of the game so far comes Sunderland's way!

Charlie Wyke is left unmarked at the back post from a cross and he can't hit the target.

Should have been 1-0 to the Black Cats!

Portsmouth have been comfortable so far.

They haven't created a clear cut chance as yet, which is to be expected as the away side but Sunderland haven't really imposed themselves yet.

I expect them to come into it a bit more though as this game goes on, Portsmouth have just got be focused with that.

Just missing a bit of a cool head so far this game for both sides.

Lots of energy to want to get forward, but just lacking that killer touch or bit of composure to thread the key ball.

Jamal Lowe OK to continue for Portsmouth after some treatment.

Pompey waste the delivery again with the free-kick and now Sunderland try to launch an attack from deep through keeper Jon McLaughlin.

It's almost basketball stuff here at times going end-to-end fairly quickly.

Bit of concern here for Portsmouth with forward Jamal Lowe down on the deck after a bit of a stiff challenge from Lynden Gooch.

Gooch adamant he won the ball in a robust tackle there. Not sure I'm completely with him....

Sunderland trying to find some joy down their right side, but Portsmouth able to head crosses away courtesy of centre-back pair Christian Burgess and Matt Clarke.

Ronan Curtis also drops back to lend some support and clear their lines.

Plenty of energy from Portsmouth here as the ball goes out of play and manager Kenny Jackett is there almost playing ball boy duties, chucking it straight back to his players as soon as it goes out for a throw-in.

Decent possession for Pompey so far if not anything clear cut in front of goal.
