  • Man Utd make five changes, Cardiff make two

  • Relegated Cardiff haven't beaten United in the league since 1960

  1. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Man Utd 0-1 Cardiff

    So, so close.

United nearly get an equaliser almost straight away as Neil Etheridge tips a Mason Greenwood effort onto the post. His shot had taken a deflection from Joe Bennett's boot but it would have been a Greenwood goal.

The Cardiff keeper has been a busy man so far.

    Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

    Easy as you like.

David de Gea goes the wrong way and that's Mendez-Laing's third goal of the season.

  3. PENALTYpublished at 22 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

    Penalty to Cardiff!

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is brought down by Diogo Dalot in the box after scuffing his cross.

Cardiff had been able to bring the ball upfield after Paul Pogba gave it away on the edge of their box.

I am seeing lots of Man Utd fans hoping it's Lukaku's final game today. I don't understand why he gets so much hate. He has had virtually no quality service all season playing in front of a very sub par midfield. Just look at his record for Belgium who have players who can cross a ball. Selling him would be a mistake.

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

Chance after chance for United but once again the shot goes wide.

Paul Pogba puts a lovely ball through to Marcus Rashford but the England striker's shot across goal edges just past the post.

  6. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

Marcus Rashford is the next to have a go with an effort from outside the box. It's direct at Neil Etheridge though, nice and simple for the Cardiff man to gather.

United with all the pressure but no finishing product at the moment.

It’s been the worst possible week for Man Utd. Liverpool are a team you want to play for. Chelsea can’t bring players in but Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp are managers you want to play for.

United is a rebuilding job. Their biggest thing is recruitment and signing players. They are either going to go one way - paying over the odds for players or accepting it’s a longer process and go younger. They can’t sign the top, top players anymore.

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

Mason Greenwood wants to be on the scoresheet today.

Andreas Pereira lifts a ball over the defence into the box and Greenwood meets it with his head, but his effort is too soft and poses no trouble for Neil Etheridge.

  9. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

Jesse Lingard slips while on the ball and Cardiff break.

The ball finds Josh Murphy who takes it into the box but he can't get his shot away before Diogo Dalot clears for a Cardiff throw.

  10. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

Another chance for United as Paul Pogba picks up the ball on the edge of the box.

He manages to beat Cardiff captain Sean Morrison, spins away and his ball across goal goes unattacked. Even the slightest touch and that would have been in.

    James: Glad Greenwood is starting

Osama: Astonishing! Smalling, Young and Jones all start!

Anon: How about the fact United have got 7 British players on the grass today? How many sides can say that in the Prem?

  12. Fun factpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 12 May 2019

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

The last time Cardiff beat Manchester United in the league came in 1960.

Granted, there have been only eight league meetings since then, but 59 years ago!

That's before even my parents were born...

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

At the other end Andreas Pereira goes close for United, pulling the trigger from just outside the box after good play on the right but it drifts wide.

Mason Greenwood also has a good chance, heading a Marcus Rashford cross just high of the bar. On second look, it looks as though it came off his shoulder.

    Good start for the hosts.

  14. Postpublished at 3 min

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

Kenneth Zohore has the first shot of the day for Cardiff and it's a terrible one.

He picks up the ball from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and takes a shot from outside the box, but it has no speed on it whatsoever and goes miles wide.

  15. A season to forget?published at 1 min

    Man Utd 0-0 Cardiff

The last fixture between these two sides was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game in charge of United, having replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho on an interim basis. United won the game 5-1.

But it's been a season to forget for both sides. United have secured a Europa League position for next term but have won just half of their fixtures - a far cry from their second-place finish this time last year.

Cardiff will bid farewell to the Premier League today after just one season in the top-flight, relegated with just nine wins to their name.

One signing is already done and dusted for next season however.

Mike Phelan has been confirmed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's assistant manager on a three-year deal, having returned to United in December as part of OGS' backroom team.

Man Utd v Cardiff (15:00 BST)

The exit door at Old Trafford looks like it's going to be swinging open a fair bit this summer, with Ander Herrera confirming he will bring to an end his five-year stay at Man Utd this weekend.

Antonio Valencia also looks set to leave the club, but will many more follow?

Whether Warnock remains at Cardiff remains to be seen, but owner Vincent Tan wants the 70-year-old to stay.

Warnock has a year remaining on his contract with the club, but has said he must be given money to spend on new players if he is to remain.

  20. Will this be Warnock's curtain call?published at 14:53 British Summer Time 12 May 2019

Man Utd v Cardiff (15:00 BST)

A week of two incredible comebacks.

A weekend when an epic title tussle will reach its climax.

A season that will see four English clubs meet in European finals... but, for once, instead of writing such headlines, Manchester United are noticeable by their absence.

Second last season and seemingly back in the pack, they're miles off the pace again.

With a summer of comings and goings predicted, this could represent an Old Trafford farewell for several donning the famous red jersey.

But will it be Cardiff manager Neil Warnock's curtain call?

After relegation at 70, retirement may yet beckon but he would miss football - and football would certainly miss him.
