He didn't try to kill it, McGinn. He just made sure he made good clean contact and it's a good save from the goalkeeper. He made sure he didn't push it into the danger area

It would be great if we could get back to these crowds every week. Can we not do something with ticket prices to get more people into the gates and enjoy this type of atmosphere? It makes the product of our game look better without a ball even being kicked

If you keep the ball on the pitch, the swirling wind shouldn't affect things, but for set-pieces and crosses it will and that could be important. The sprinklers are on and they are all over the place

  14. One-off final way to go?published at 14:44 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

St Mirren v Dundee United (15:00)

One Scot has already won a play-off final this weekend - Mickey Mellon leading Tranmere Rovers to promotion from League Two - and there's a chance for another today as Jack Ross' Sunderland side face Charlton Athletic.

Ahead of Scotland's Premiership Play-off first leg, St Mirren manager Oran Kearney suggested that we would be better off adopting the one-off final format that results in near-capacity crowds at Wembley.

The Northern Irishman thinks it would make it a bigger occasion, the counter-argument being that the clubs involved share two sets of home gate receipts. United counterpart Robbie Neilson has just backed up that view.

Which would you prefer? Thumbs up for a one-off final, thumbs down to stay with a two-leg final.

  15. Too close to call?published at 14:41 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

St Mirren v Dundee United (15:00)

It's difficult to predict a winner from two sides showing improved form coming into the play-off final.

While St Mirren have only won two of their last five games at home, they are unbeaten in seven outings.

Meanwhile, United are on an unbeaten three-game run and have only lost one of their last five on the road.

Following that first-leg draw, they are now unbeaten in three meetings with St Mirren.

And they won on their last visit to Paisley, knocking St Mirren out of the Scottish Cup by 2-1 in February to end the Buddies' three-game winning run over the Terrors on their own patch.

  16. Kearney king of coolpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

St Mirren v Dundee United (15:00)

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney sounded as cool, calm and collected as he did before and after the first leg but admitted he had a few nerves when he woke up this morning.

"Just the one change and there were a few aches and pains, but it was probably right to freshen it up," he tells BBC Scotland.

"The key thing for us is that we just need to go out and get the job done.

"We want to make sure the fans are right up for it."

Veteran centre-half Gary MacKenzie has shrugged off a knock to start.

"Gary's been outstanding," Kearney adds. "It's been no crazy fact that him coming back from injury has coincided with an improvement in our results."

It's a staggering 25 years ago this week that his goal against Rangers won Dundee United their first-ever Scottish Cup. If I could hazard a guess at which striker Oran Kearney would have liked to face, I think it would be Osman Sow. I think they can deal with his physicality. Pavol Safranko is a striker who, if a chance comes his way, he's dangerous. He's such a threat

  19. Neilson puts trust in playerspublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

St Mirren v Dundee United (15:00)

Dundee United head coach Robbie Neilson says his side have been practising penalties in the build-up to this one. He also talked our reporter, Chick Young, through the changes to his team.

"Osman Sow has had a wee bit of an injury the last few weeks to be honest and he's been digging it out for us, Peter Pawlett's the same," he says. "We wanted to have a strong bench and the two of them will be ready to come on at some point.

"The majority of the team have played in big games and been involved in it before, so they know the build up, they know what's at stake. So it's just about giving them some tips about what St Mirren might do, what we need to do and trust them to do the job."

  20. Morgan to complete double?published at 14:28 British Summer Time 26 May 2019

    Charlton Athletic v Sunderland (15:00)

Lewis Morgan helped St Mirren win promotion a year ago and today the winger will be looking to do the double as part of the Sunderland squad facing Charlton Athletic at Wembley at the same time as his former club.

He had been loaned back to the Buddies after his January transfer to Celtic, who this season sent him down to join former St Mirren manager Jack Ross at the Stadium of Light.

Morgan is on the bench, so maybe he'll have one eye on the St Mirren score on his mobile.
