And that's that. All three points are heading home with Bournemouth.

Those early goals proved a sucker punch for Aston Villa but it's been a scrappy affair ever since and they are unlucky not to nab a point.

    Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth

Last chance saloon for Aston Villa and Bjorn Engels goes oh so close from a free-kick. His leaping header edges just wide.

  4. Postpublished at 90+3

    Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth

Ryan Fraser goes close for Bournemouth in the dying minutes, but his left-footed strike is deflected out for a corner by Ahmed El Mohamady.

The exact same thing happens just moments later from the corner, and goes out for a second corner, but that comes to nothing.

Villa are pushing hard but it just isn't coming for them. Jota is the latest to have a go on goal, but he doesn't connect with the ball properly and it dribbles into the hands of Aaron Ramsdale.

It's then an easy catch for the Bournemouth stopper from a John McGinn header.

Another change for Villa. Trezeguet off, Keinan Davis on for his Premier League debut.

End-to-end stuff here as Bournemouth look to seal this win and Villa search for an equaliser.

    The clock is ticking.

    Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth

Villa and John McGinn pushing hard for an equaliser. But that's not how you're going to get it, John...

Great play on the edge of the box before slicing his shot so wide it probably crossed the line nearer the corner flag than the goal.

(I may or may not have exaggerated a touch there.)

  10. Substitutionspublished at 76 mins

A change for both sides. Dean Smith puts Jota on for Anwar El Ghazi.

For the Cherries, Dom Solanke takes the place of goalscorer Harry Wilson.

    Douglas Luiz

    What. A. Goal.

Douglas Luiz makes up for his sloppy first-half performance with an absolute peach of a strike. After a corner, Jack Grealish brings the ball into the box but spots Luiz outside the edge of the box. One touch and he curls his effort into the top corner.

    Game on.

A solid save from Aaron Ramsdale from a nice Trezeguet turn and shoot.

A quarter of this game to go. Much to do for Villa.

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

At the other end, Villa come close to conceding a third.

Harry Wilson plays a little through ball to the other Wilson, Callum, who fires a cross across goal but there's nobody there to touch it in.

Lucky Villa, but that's the first proper attack of the half Bournemouth have had.

  15. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

Jack Grealish. So close AGAIN - and he knows it.

A lovely ball whipped in falls perfectly for him but somehow he heads it over. That should have gone in.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 59 mins

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

Nathan Ake goes into the book for a mis-timed challenge on John McGinn. No arguments there.

  17. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

So, so close for Villa. Neil Taylor, looking for his first club goal since April 2010, receives the ball in the box, nudges it onto his left foot and then sees his shot go out for a corner after a Steve Cook block.

    Good pressure from the hosts.

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

A great effort from Jack Grealish from outside the area.

He picks the ball up midway in the Bournemouth half, powers towards goal but his curling effort goes just wide of the top corner.

In his effort to stop Grealish's shot, Adam Smith has ended up with a bloody face. Nothing a wipe clean, a swig of water and a change of shirt can't sort out.

  19. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

Jack Grealish is pinging some lovely balls around the pitch. Villa are just struggling to find the end product at the moment but this is a decent start to the second half from the hosts.

Better than that of the first half, anyway.

  20. VAR

    Penalty appealpublished at 47 mins

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

Is this how all halves start at Villa Park?

Aston Villa want a penalty! Aaron Ramsdale comes to save a ball but Wesley is brought down as a result. Martin Atkinson waves it away initially, but it's gone to VAR.

Nope, the VAR rules there was nothing in it.
