  • Villa have not won their opening home fixture in a Premier League season since beating Blackburn in 2011

  1. Second half under waypublished at 46 mins

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

A Bournemouth substitution to start us off. As to be expected, Philip Billing will play no more part in this game. He's taken off with Andrew Surman on in his place.

Second half, let's see what you've got.

Well that was quite a half. Two quickfire goals and terrible tackles flying in left, right and centre.

Let's hope the second half is just as entertaining.

Villa two goals down but enjoying a bit more possession that their visitors so far.

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

SO close for Villa. Wesley gets the ball out on the left wing, he brings it into the box and finds Anwar El Ghazi but his shot, destined for the bottom corner, is blocked.

And with that, the whistle goes. Thank goodness, things were getting heated...

How on earth is Philip Billing still on the pitch?! Another terrible challenge on John McGinn, leaning in with his arm on McGinn's shoulder/neck area.

I'll be surprised if he's not taken off at half-time.

That was nasty, Ahmed El Mohamady. Ryan Fraser is taken down by the Villa man, and El Mohamady looks to put a boot in on Fraser. Fraser is in some pain.

No cards though, and it's a Cherries free-kick out on the wing. A terrible delivery.

Moments later, it's another chance for Harry Wilson to get his second but Tom Heaton stops him in his tracks.

John McGinn wants a goal here. He lets a ball bounce over the defender, and unleashes a cracking effort, on the volley, with his left foot. It hits the side netting but that was curling towards goal.

    So close.

A bad challenge AGAIN from Philip Billing, this time on Douglas Luiz. He's walking a very narrow tightrope.

Eddie Howe will be desperate for half-time to give him 15 mins to cool off.

Players falling like flies. Goalscorer Harry Wilson looks in some pain after being clattered into by, yes him again, Douglas Luiz on the edge of the box.

Think he was winded. We've all been there. He's good to carry on.

Philip Billing seriously needs to be careful here. A terrible challenge on Jack Grealish seconds after going into the book.

I think Martin Atkinson referred that up to the video assistant referee but that comes to nothing.

    As you were.

Oooh, a bit of handbags between Wesley and Philip Billing. I'm not even sure why.

Martin Atkinson takes Wesley aside for a little chat. No cards, just a warning to chill out a bit.

Not long after, it's a yellow card for Billing for a poor challenge on John McGinn.

The Villa Park faithful are sensing something is happening here as the volume starts to gradually increase. A goal before half-time would do wonders to settle them a touch.

The latest attack sees Jack Grealish send in a cross but it's too deep. Moments later, John McGinn is set up for a shot on goal but two Bournemouth players fly into each other as they get in the way of his strike. Bit of a sore one for Philip Billing but he's fine.

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

A good spell from Villa ends with clever play by Trezeguet, but his shot is foiled by a deflection and it's easy for Aaron Ramsdale to gather.

Villa are perhaps feeling a tad frustrated by their start here with a couple of clumsy challenges. The latest sees Neil Taylor bring Harry Wilson down out on the wing.

At the other end, Harry Wilson has a half-decent chance of a second, but his shot is poor and flies wide.

He mutters an expletive that I won't repeat here.

Villa pushing forward. Ahmed El Mohamady puts in a delicious ball but it's punched out by Aaron Ramsdale.

In the same attack, the ball finds Wesley just metres out, he turns and fires towards goal but Steve Cook gets behind it and it deflects out for a corner. Nothing comes from it.

John McGinn goes close for Villa once more. The ball finds him on the edge of the box, he fires a half-volley towards goal but Aaron Ramsdale gets behind it and it's cleared out for a corner.

Villa look a lot stronger going forward than they do at the back.

Douglas Luiz is not impressing on his first Villa start as he goes close to scoring...in his own net!

Wesley gives the ball away in the middle of the park, it reaches Joshua King who nudges it out to Callum Wilson. Wilson fires a cross across goal and it reaches the boot of Douglas Luiz, and only just goes over the bar.

    Nervy times.

Villa have a free-kick right on the edge of the box as Jack Grealish is brought down by Steve Cook.

Anwar El Ghazi is standing over this one. Up he steps, and sends it over the bar.

He went for the curl, it probably would have been better had he smashed it towards goal.

The silence in Villa Park is deafening. If there was a script, this probably wasn't in it.

    Harry Wilson

My oh my. Harry Wilson, on loan from Liverpool, gets a goal on his Bournemouth debut.

Douglas Luiz is the Villa man at fault. He lets the ball slip between his legs, thinking a team-mate is behind him, but Wilson intercepts on the edge of the box and lets it fly.

It takes a decent deflection off Tyrone Mings to beat Tom Heaton between the sticks, but Wilson will be claiming that one.

    Aston Villa 0-1 Bournemouth

Aston Villa go close with a brilliant hit from John McGinn. He picks it up just outside the box, takes a touch, and sends it flying towards goal with his left foot.

A great save from Aaron Ramsdale tips it over the bar.
