    Watford 0-1 Brighton

Just the one goal separates these two sides at half-time but very little else does.

It's hardly a classic, so far. More goals to come in the second half?

A good start to the new season for Brighton.

    Watford 0-1 Brighton

A free-kick for Watford in a good position after a poor challenge from Lewis Dunk on Will Hughes.

Jose Holebas whips it a shot and it's heading for Mat Ryan's top right corner, but he just manages to get a hand to it. Not sure the keeper was expecting that.

    Watford 0-1 Brighton

Just before that, there was almost another own goal, this time from Brighton.

Etienne Capoue played a nice ball over to Kiko Femenia, who volleyed it back across the goal. Mat Ryan managed to save but it bounced back off Lewis Dunk's thigh and out for a corner. Phew.

    Watford 0-1 Brighton

It's getting tasty. Shane Duffy gets his legs in a real tangle with Etienne Capoue and drags the Watford man down. Free-kick for the hosts out on the left wing.

Gerard Deulofeu sends it in but it comes back out off team-mate Craig Dawson.

Deulofeu is then dispossessed horribly as Brighton break, but it doesn't prove costly as Pascal Gross' cross is smothered by Ben Foster. Lucky boy.

    Watford 0-1 Brighton

Good work from Ben Foster in the Watford net as Brighton search for a second. A Pascal Gross cross is heading straight for the forehead of Glenn Murray but Foster manages to bring it down into his arms.

At the other end, Etienne Capoue goes for the screamer. It doesn't happen. Instead, it flies over the bar. Should have done better with that.

    Watford 0-1 Brighton

Watford try to make immediate amends with Will Hughes going for goal. He receives the ball with his back to the net but slices it well wide on the swivel.

Brighton have their tails up. How will the Hornets respond?

GOAL - Watford 0-1 Brightonpublished at 28 mins

    Abdoulaye Doucoure (OG)

Well that's not how to start your season.

A lofted cross is cleared in the box by Jose Holebas but it only goes as far as Pascal Gross. He volleys in a cross in the direction of Glenn Murray who is just two metres out from goal, but before the ball reaches him, Abdoulaye Doucoure turns it into his own net.

    Nightmare.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Chance for Brighton, but they don't mkae the most of it. Pascal Gross is fed the ball in the box and he touches it on to Glenn Murray who is running in from the wing.

He messes it up though, I don't know if that was a shot or a cross but either way, it did nothing.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Both teams enjoying possession here but absolutely nothing to show for it.

We've seen just five shots so far in this one, yet both seem happy to just play the ball around in these early stages.

    Hmmm.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Glenn Murray finds himself nearly in on goal and Jose Holebas is left with no option but to clear for a throw-in.

Brighton continue to push but as the ball is played back, Pascal Gross is dispossessed. Watford fans are having fun here, cheering every pass their team are stringing together.

  13. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Gerard Deulofeu wants a penalty but the referee waves it away.

If I'm honest, it didn't look like much. He picked up the ball midway into the Brighton half, steamed into the box but went down under the slightest pressure. He was looking for that one.

  14. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Free-kick for Brighton midway into Watford's half after a late challenge on Dale Stephens. Really clattered into him there.

The set-piece comes to nothing though as Jose Holebas eventually clears out on the wing.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Martin Montaya has had a good start for Brighton out on that right wing. He legs it down the wing before feeding the ball into the middle.

The ball eventually finds Dale Stephens who feeds Davy Propper, but his effort from outside the area blasts over the bar. A good opportunity.

Brighton seem to have finally settled at Vicarage Road.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

A chance for Brighton. Some lovely intelligent play from Pascal Gross sees him feed the ball out to Martin Montoya on the right wing, he manages to keep it in and finally manages to find Jurgen Locadia. His shot is straight at Ben Foster, though.

Watford immediately break and Troy Deeney finds himself with a chance on goal, but just like at the other end, it's straight at the keeper.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

Brighton look to be forming an attack but Davy Propper fluffs his lines, handing the ball to Watford on a plate inside their half.

New club captain Lewis Dunk spots a Martin Montoya run but he doesn't quite make it.

Andre Gray then goes down clutching his head. Replays show it was the elbow of his skipper Troy Deeney causing the pain as they both went up for the same header. He's a bit dazed, but good to carry on.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

The first effort on goal for Watford comes from Gerard Deulofeu, the Hornets' top scorer last season.

Looking at that strike though, it leaves you wondering why. He goes for glory from outside the area with his left foot but slices it well, well wide.

    Watford 0-0 Brighton

An early corner for Watford as Will Hughes tries to a put a cross in. Jose Holebas whips it in, it's not his best, and it's cleared by a Brighton head.

Another attack from the hosts sees Hughes pick the ball up again just outside the area. He lofts in a floating cross but it's an easy take for Mat Ryan between the Brighton sticks.
