England boss Aidy Boothroyd, speaking to Sky Sports: "We were ring rusty in the first half half and in the second, there was only one team in it.

"We have hit the bar and hit the post. I genuinely believed we could do it but Dean Henderson's mistake, we all make mistakes and it's important we make sure he knows how important he is to us.

"If you don't take your chances and are not disciplined enough to stay on your feet, you are going to get punished.

"I thought it was going really well. I was disappointed to lose Ryan Sessegnon after half-time but we opened them up.

"In order to get through this we have to take the positives out of it. We are on the right track in terms of how we play the game but we need to iron out the mistakes."

Romania midfielder Ianis Hagi: "It was a crazy game to play in. One moment you’re super happy then two seconds later they have equalised.

"I’m so happy we were able to give the victory to our fans - the amazing ones here and those back in Romania."

Callum: The real question should be why Boothroyd hasn’t given Reiss Nelson any game time?

England forward Demarai Gray, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is part of learning. We have a lot of time left in our careers, these things happen and we will have many disappointments in our careers.

"It is tournament football and if you don't get the points you don't progress. Everyone tried their hardest. The game at the end wads like a basketball game, back and fourth.

"We're an honest bunch, we take responsibility as a team. There is nothing we can do except learn from it and correct it in the next game."

England striker Tammy Abraham, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's disappointing. You look at our squad, see the talent. We had a situation against France where we were unlucky not to take a point.

"Against Romania, they took their chances. You get punished if you don't take chances and I think Romania were more clinical than us.

"They were well structured and had their shape. The manager has just told the players it's a learning curve for us."

Here's how it looks in Group C. England are all but out because if France avoid defeat against Croatia later tonight then their slim hopes of finishing as the best runner up will be extinguished.

We're still waiting for reaction from Aidy Boothroyd. Arguably England's best team was the one that finished the game rather than started it, so why did he not play his best players in a must-win game?

Mark Nevard: Deserve to be knocked out on those two performances. Terrible mistakes and even worse management. Best players not playing for a must-win game?

Matthew Venn: This is a team full of Premier League players.... losing to Romania! England Women are by far our best chance of winning anything.

Elliott Gilmore: Wow. Not a lot to look forward to as an England supporter with this U21 defence. Going forward not too bad though.

Paul Carney: All England teams play Gareth ball. Opponents know it & work on the theory that our defenders are not technically good enough to play that way.

All over. A crazy end to the game but England are beaten for the second successive game and can't progress to the semi-finals if France pick up at least a point against Croatia later tonight.

Paul Carney: What the hell is Boothroyd up to? Abraham is our best striker.

It almost is 3-3! Tammy Abraham goes close twice in as many minutes as first his shot is denied by Radu before the striker puts a header on the crossbar.

What a difference Abraham has made. You have to ask, why was he not on earlier?

There's four minutes of time added on. England have to score to stay alive in the tournament.
