    Southampton 1-1 Manchester United

Jannik Vestergaard speaking to BBC Sport: "I think their goal knocked us a bit and gave them a bit of confidence. You can't play 90 minutes like we did the first 10 so it's only natural that we stepped up a gear.

"It was important that we kept the game close and we got our chance."

On his first goal for Southampton: "I was quite confident when I saw the cross and thought, 'This is mine' and hopefully it's the first of many.

(The sending off) "made it a little bit harder but we stuck with it, fought very hard as a team and overcame pressure that came after the sending off so we're very happy with the point."

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to BT Sport: "We started well, got the game where we wanted it and that's where you have to score the second and the third and finish it off. We weren't clinical enough. We had loads of chances, and the last bit is missing. It's getting there though.

"We know Daniel James' qualiites, he's got a great strike on him and he creates space for others. I'm delihgted for the boy, he's come in and made an impact for us.

"The three other games that we haven't won, we played better than against Chelsea. We are dominating and creating chances but haven't been clinical enough in front of goal to win games. We have missed penalties, chances - it's a dip in results but not in form."

  15. 'Gracia under pressure if Watford lose again'published at 14:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

    Newcastle v Watford (15:00 BST)

    John Acres
    MOTD commentator

This fixture brought about Newcastle's first league win last season under Rafael Benitez, and it was in November! They're up and running much quicker under his replacement Steve Bruce, thanks to that win at Spurs last weekend.

It was important for their record signing Joelinton to get that goal against Tottenham. The Brazilian missed the defeat to Leicester in the Carabao Cup but will be back, and full of confidence.

Watford's own record signing Ismaila Sarr made his full debut in their EFL Cup win over Coventry, scoring their first goal. I can see him starting - they look short of goals, and have Troy Deeney out injured.

I watched them at Everton and they could have come away with a point if their finishing had been better.

They won their first four Premier League games last season - if they lose their fourth in a row on Saturday, Javi Gracia will be under immense pressure with Arsenal and Manchester City up next after the international break.

  17. 'Palace could be top eight with home consistency'published at 14:28 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

    Chris Wise
    MOTD commentator

The question: Against whom did Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United suffer their last Premier League home defeat? The answer: Crystal Palace.

It is a remarkable statistic. And if Palace could marry up that superb away form with some consistency at home, they'd be a top-eight side. The trouble is that a trip to Selhurst Park is not anywhere near as tricky as it used to be, highlighted again by Colchester's victory on penalties in the Carabao Cup in the capital this week. That's the puzzle Roy Hodgson is working hard to solve.

Aston Villa's first points of the season against Everton last week were huge. They'd been a little unfortunate to have been left empty handed from their opening two matches. Dean Smith's newly-assembled side could prove to be an interesting outfit once they have fully settled.
