    Tottenham 4-2 Olympiakos

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho: "The goal before halt-time is important. I did not see it, I saw it later on the screen. When you are losing 2-0, if you are in control of the other result and you know a draw is enough to qualify then we can go for the draw in the second half and be pragmatic. I love intelligent ballboys like I was, and this kid today was brilliant. He read the game, understands the game and made an important assist, an important moment for him and he will never forget it.

"You need to defend better, press better which was the strategy of the game. I think some of the boys look tired to me, national team weeks are never easy, playing Saturday and then Tuesday and the pressure surrounding my first match. We had the data and the levels of intensity were really high against West Ham. today I decided to play with the same team and maybe I was wrong and should have made a couple of changes to give more energy. The boys gave everything, the feeling is good and we have difficult matches to come. We can look to the Bayern Munich game with different eyes."

  3. 'I told them to keep calm, keep confident'published at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2019

    Tottenham 4-2 Olympiakos

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho tells BT Sport: "The first thing I want to say is to publicly what I did in the dressing room is to apologise to Eric Dier. It is never easy for a player but not for the coaching staff either. It was for the team and we needed a different solution. We were losing 2-0, they were closing really well and I needed a second man with Dele Alli to come into the pockets. It was between Dier and Harry Winks but a hard decision. They understand, Eric understands but the reality it is never a easy and to make it clear, it was about the team not individuals. I thought about taking out one of the centre-backs and putting Eric in defence.

"We have qualified for the next round, that is the important thing for all of us at the club and the fans. It was hard, they are a good team, very well organised and they attacked our self esteem and self confidence. I did not expert our boys to feel this pressure at home and they have not had the best results in the last few months. It was a tough time, more than the changes or the tactical talk, I told them to keep calm, keep confident and believe in ourselves."

In possession, Tottenham were more dynamic and moved it quicker. Christian Eriksen was superb and it would be massive to keep him.

Dele Alli was trying his flicks and tricks and that is when you know he is on it. Even the crowd changed and there were just two different teams.

FT: Man City 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told BT Sport: "We qualify and we played well in the second half. The second half was better than the first. We conceded only a few counter attacks.

"I've played against Shakhtar Donetsk many times and they always have quality players. In general, we created chances but the draw was enough in the end. Now we have one competition already done, and now our focus will be the Premier League, until we arrive in the cups. The target was to qualify and we have done it."

  12. 'I had a fast player down my side'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2019

FT: Man City 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender Angelino told BT Sport: "It was a tough night. It was good to play, even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, but we are top of the group. We have to take the positives and keep improving."

"I had a fast player on my side, but at this level, everyone can give you a tough time. Their game plan was to play long balls in the first half but we improved in the second. My focus is to enjoy every chance and hopefully the team will keep playing well.

  13. 'We let them play'published at 22:15 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2019

FT: Man City 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk

    Manchester City

Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan told BT Sport: "Gabby [Jesus] kept the ball for me and then it was not too difficult to score. Unfortunately, we got a draw which we have to accept but we qualify as group winners which is the most important thing. We knew this game would be tough. We let them play and didn’t defend as well as we normally do, so we struggled to create. It was not our best performance but this is the Champions League and it is a competition where you have to struggle."

On City's season so far: "We are on the way. In the Premier League we are nine points behind the leaders which is not what we are aiming for but this is the situation you have to deal with. We have dropped unnecessary points in a few games already, and to remain at the top, you are not allowed to. We need to be there if Liverpool slip and we are through in the Champions League, but there is still plenty of work to improve. Not results, but more the way we play."

  14. 'We could not perform any worse'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2019

    Tottenham 4-2 Olympiakos

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane tells BT Sport: "It was a disappointing start, we know that and did not come out with any energy and they got the two goals and put us under pressure, it was an uphill struggle but we go the goals and it feels good to qualify.

"We needed to be calm especially after scoring. We did not have to rush it and we had a bit of freedom and enjoy it a bit more.

On beating Alessandro del Piero's record to score 20 goals in fewest games: "Not a bad player to beat. It was about qualifying, no matter how we did it but we had to win and we did that. We can enjoy it and try and deep the momentum for Saturday."

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli: "We did not start nowhere near good enough and we said at half-time we could not perform any worse. I got the goal, which was a bit lucky, but we won.

"We were losing and the manager made the decision to bring on a more forward thinking player (in Christian Eriksen). It could have been any of us to come off in that first 20 minutes but thankfully the sub worked."

Man City were way below their best tonight. they have done just about enough to get through without any real damage.

The next game, they can send out a young team and rest the players they wanted to. It's kind of what Pep Guardiola wanted.
