Moment of concern for Derby keeper Kelle Roos as he fumbles a high ball in his own box, but Cardiff are unable to capitalise on the loose stuff.

Callum Paterson's long throw has already been deployed on a couple of occasions but so far without a killer delivery.

More surging forward from Derby sees them get joy down Cardiff's right as Max Lowe finds the ball in an attacking position.

He's not quite able to find the killer ball into the box, but Derby are showing promise turning defence into attack.

    Derby open the scoring!

Their first real foray into Cardiff's box sees them take a couple of shots from Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn that are blocked initially.

Cardiff fail to get it clear at the second and third attempts and Derby keep it alive to put it back into danger and allow full-back Scott Malone the chance to bundle it home from close range.

    Pride Park relieved.

Cardiff playing this evening in their away shirt for some reason.

Not sure blue has ever clashed with white but never mind, it's the coral colour for The Bluebirds at Pride Park tonight.

Nothing of any substance to report around either penalty area from the opening exchanges.

  11. Boro decide to take legal action over Derby stadium salepublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 13 September 2019

Derby have found themselves in the news for matters off the pitch as well as on it in the build-up to this game.

Middlesbrough have decided to take legal action against the EFL in relation to how the sale of Derby's Pride Park was dealt with last season.

Cardiff also come into this evening's game not exactly firing on all cylinders.

The Bluebirds have a perfectly symmetrical record of W2, D2, L2 from their first six league games - those two draws coming in their past two games.

In between that, Luton Town rather comprehensively dumped them out of the EFL Cup in a 3-0 reverse at home.

There's also been no win on the road for Neil Warnock's side in any competition this term, but three points this evening would take them into the top six before the rest of the division's fixtures this weekend.

    Phillip CocuImage source, Rex Features

Phillip Cocu's early days in the Derby County hot seat haven't quite gone to plan for the Dutchman.

Appointed in the summer following Frank Lampard's departure, Cocu seemed to get off to the perfect start with an opening day win at Huddersfield.

But that was the last time the former Barcelona midfielder tasted victory as Rams boss in a league fixture with just the one win from their first six Championship games.

Added to his woes, Derby were also handsomely beaten by old rivals Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup second round at the end of last month.

It's fair to say a first home win of his managerial reign would be warmly welcomed tonight.

Derby boss Phillip Cocu has decided to make three changes from the Rams' 3-0 defeat by Brentford last time out.

Matt Clarke comes in to a reshaped defence with midfielder Jason Knight dropping to the bench.

Duane Holmes gets the nod at left-back ahead of Lee Buchanan while Scott Malone also returns as a wing back in place of Kieran Dowell.

Cardiff make just the one change to their starting line-up from their 1-1 draw against Fulham a couple of weeks ago.

Callum Paterson replaces Lee Tomlin, who has been ruled out following whiplash injuries he sustained in a car accident earlier this week.

Derby XI: Roos; Lowe, Malone, Keogh (c), Clarke; Bielik, Huddlestone; Lawrence, Holmes, Waghorn; Marriott.

Subs: Hamer, Davies, Dowell, Knight, Paterson, Martin, Jozefzoon.

Cardiff XI: Smithies; Peltier, Bennett, Morrison (c), Flint; Bacuna, Ralls; Murphy, Paterson, Whyte; Glatzel.

Subs: Day, Vaulks, Nelson, Vassell, Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Bogle.

Unusual scenes around Pride Park in the past hour where the stadium had to be evacuated after reports of flares being found in the away concourse.

Nothing too serious I'm relieved to report and the players were able to resume their warm-ups after a short delay and the supporters were also allowed back in after being kept in the car parks for a time.

The Championship returns after the international break with a Friday night fixture to get the weekend started.

Two sides who are yet to display their promotion credential meet in the East Midlands hoping to get themselves back in form.

It's Derby County against Cardiff City at Pride Park and kick-off is just under 15 minutes away.
