    Wesley

There you go! Didn't expect it to be quite so soon after calling it.

Villa are the beneficiaries of my fruitful forecasting as Wesley silences some of the doubters.

The brutish striker hooks in from six yards after being picked out by Anwar El Ghazi's delightful inswinging cross from the right.

Goals galore here. Mark my words...

    Another minute, another (half) chance.

Jack Grealish almost repays those fantasy football managers who have kept the faith instead of picking Super John McGinn (like me).

But the Villa skipper's 20-yard shot takes a huge chunk of a Norwich body and can't stretch Michael McGovern.

Back up the other end... Villa striker Wesley finds himself in space inside the home box but cannot power a header on target.

That won't help the £22m striker silence the critics...

Now then. Norwich are starting to fly. Three chances in quick succession for the Canaries, all falling to Marco Stiepermann.

One deflected into Tom Heaton's hands, another blocked by Tyrone Mings. The third? Fired over.

Villa dominating possession so far. Matt Targett's cross from the left is hacked clear by Ben Godfrey.

Norwich look to 'transition' quickly with a long ball up towards Teemu Pukki. But the ball hits the Finn's back as he tries to scurry away from the Villa defence.

Fast and furious start here. Excellent tempo.

Not there! Norwich try to play out from the back... commendable. Ben Godfrey giving a hospital pass to Kenny McLean... not so clever.

McLean has his pocket picked on the edge of the home box but John McGinn... sorry, Super John McGinn, drags his shot wide.

Nice stomach settler for Michael McGovern on his first Premier League start. A tame shot from Anwar El Ghazi is easily gathered by the Norwich keeper.

Todd Cantwell has looked useful at the top level hasn't he? The Norwich winger waltzes down the left but his cut-back cross is poor. Back in Villa possession...

  15. Villa are favourites - Farkepublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 5 October 2019

Norwich v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

Who are the favourites to win today? Tough one. The bookies are backing Norwich - just - largely because of their home advantage.

Daniel Farke, unless he is delving into the Alex Ferguson book of mind games, reckons it is the visitors.

"There are many reasons why Villa are favourites, but you shouldn't underestimate the spirit and resilience of my players - or of Carrow Road," says the Norwich boss.

"If we create the same spirit and togetherness at Carrow Road, then we can achieve another big surprise.

"We have to fight for points to achieve our targets. We know we have a difficult situation, but we want to be successful."

Down together. Back up together. Now walking out of the Carrow Road tunnel together.

Bright and breezy at Carrow Road. Almost show-time...

  17. Norwich haven't played this Villa - Smithpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 5 October 2019

Norwich v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

Villa know a win today against the side who they came up from the Championship with last season will see them climb out of the relegation zone at Norwich's expense.

"Anybody who can beat Manchester City in this league is a team to be reckoned with, and they've done that already at Carrow Road, so we know they've got firepower within their team," Villa boss Dean Smith says.

"They're tough to play against. We had two tight games against them last season and came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 both times.

"But they won't have played against this Aston Villa and some of my players won't have played against them before."

It's not been the easiest of starts to life back in the Premier League for Norwich or Aston Villa.

Norwich have lost back-to-back away games since that stunning win over Manchester City at Carrow Road. That victory was made all the more impressive by the quite remarkable injury crisis at the club.

Aston Villa will aim to take advantage and put right their dreadful away record in the Premier League of 10 consecutive defeats.

To continue the computer game theme... Daniel Farke might be tempted to rage-quit his debut Premier League season and reboot if he could do.

The Norwich boss is without NINE first-team players again today as the Canaries look to return to winning ways.

That extraordinary win over champions Manchester City has been the only shining light in the middle of four Premier League defeats for the newly-promoted side.

"You can't allow yourself to be too down or disappointed," says the German.

"It's more like you want to be there to help them and create a plan to find solutions to gain some points.

"It's more like the inspiration I need is from this group."
