It's absolutely teeming with rain at the Riverside.

Not conducive to free-flowing, slick football on a very heavy surface. It might be a night to test the keepers from distance.

A month ago, Queens Park Rangers were in the play-off places.

Since then defeats by west London rivals Brentford and Fulham have contributed to a five-match winless streak which has seen the Hoops slip to 12th.

The R's have lost three of their past four and are completely unable to keep a clean sheet.

They haven't recorded a shut-out all season, and have conceded twice in each of their past nine matches - statistics which surely make boss Mark Warburton wince.

This evening's visitors Nottingham Forest occupy sixth place and are five points ahead of Rangers in the table.

The Tricky Trees are unbeaten in three games, winning two of those encounters, and are looking to keep ahead of the pack of teams wanting to leapfrog them into the play-offs.

There could be a bit of bad blood at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk comes up against former club Birmingham City.

Monk was sacked by Blues this summer, with his former assistant Pep Clotet now in caretaker charge at St Andrew's.

Clotet coached alongside Monk at Swansea City and Leeds United, but Monk says he made an "error of judgement" working with the Spaniard.

"Unfortunately, I didn't listen to a lot of people who warned me about him," Monk told BBC Radio Sheffield.

    "I don't speak with him."

Ouch. That could make the pre and post-match handshakes a little awkward as Monk welcomes his former colleague.

On the pitch, both sides could do with a positive result; the Owls have gone four games without tasting victory, while Birmingham are three without a win.

Brentford are one of two teams who could move into the Championship's top six this evening,

The Bees are in fine form, having found their stride following a patchy start to the season.

Thomas Frank's side have won five of their past six and are aiming to record four consecutive away league victories for the first time since 2011.

Hosts Blackburn have had a mini-revival after ending a six-match winless run at home to Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the month.

Saturday's win over struggling Barnsley made it two wins in three for Tony Mowbray's men.

Rovers start the evening in 17th, eight points off the play-offs and seven above the relegation zone.

West Bromwich Albion were knocked off top spot last night when Leeds United struck a late winner at Reading.

With an inferior goal difference, the Baggies need a win tonight to take them back to the summit.

Slaven Bilic's men have won three in a row in a seven-match unbeaten run - and have lost just once in the league this season.

But Bristol City are in form ahead of their trip to The Hawthorns.

The Robins have suffered a sole defeat since the first day of the season and are five unbeaten.

Starting the day a place off the top six - level on goal difference with Nottingham Forest - the play-offs are within touching distance for Lee Johnson's side.

This game kicks off 15 minutes later than all the others.

  8. Can Preston bounce back?published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2019

    Hull v Preston (19:45 GMT)

At the other end of the table high-flying Preston will go back up to third with victory at mid-table Hull.

Alex Neil's side suffered a setback against Derby at the weekend, but had been in fine form before Saturday, winning three in a row.

Hull will be buoyed by their weekend draw against Middlesbrough, as Jarrod Bowen's double saw them fight back from 2-0 down.

The Tigers can creep towards the play-off places with a win.

  9. A basement 'six-pointer'published at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2019

    Middlesbrough v Barnsley (19:45 GMT)

It's one of the oldest cliches in the book but tonight's game at the Riverside really is a 'six-pointer'.

Middlesbrough dropped into the relegation zone last night courtesy of Luton's victory over Charlton.

Just two league wins this season has heaped the pressure on boss Jonathan Woodgate.

Barnsley are faring even worse. They're seven points from safety and without a victory since the opening day.

Tykes fans are hoping new boss Gerhard Struber can revive their fortunes. A win at their relegation rivals would be a good start.

Fulham, meanwhile, beat Derby County to move up to third.
