  1. City not having any joy with their crossingpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2019

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

There is just no way through this Southampton defence at the moment. They are defending very narrow, leaving space out wide and encouraging crosses into a crowded penalty area.

City have had 41 of those from open play alone in the first hour, and are still waiting for their first shot on target - so it is safe to say Saints' ploy is working, so far.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

The Saints have made 52 defensive clearances today.

    City have made three.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

An hour gone and City have held 75% of the possession.

    Pretty mad, that.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

Another opening goes begging for City.

Sergio Aguero turns in the box and attempts to find Gabriel Jesus but his pass is wayward. He was probably better off pulling the trigger there.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

It's all a little flat at the Etihad.

Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva have switched flanks to try and prise open this stubborn Saints defence.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    City keep coming, though.

Kevin De Bruyne finds Raheem Sterling in the box, but with Angelino outside him in space, Sterling drives straight at the Saints backline and they repel his advances.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

Angelino swings in another cross with Jannik Vestergaard easily clears.

City are really struggling to break Southampton down here.

  8. Postpublished at 52 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

Few whistles going around the Etihad as Alex McCarthy takes his time with a goal kick.

Are the home fans starting to get a little edgy?

  9. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

Pretty quiet start to the second half here.

City netted 20 seconds after the restart against Villa last week, they haven't managed to do that this time.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    More attacking options for City.

Gabriel Jesus has replaced David Silva at the break.

The Spaniard injured his hamstring towards the end of the first half.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    Off we go again.

Can the Saints hold out for what would be a HUGE result?

  12. Jesus set to make an appearance?published at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2019

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    Chris Bevan

Gabriel Jesus was stripped and doing stretches in the technical area when the whistle went for half-time... I think it is safe to say we will be seeing him shortly.

The story of an eventful first half can (almost) be told in shots alone. City have had 13 but have not managed one on target, although nine of their efforts have been blocked.

That stat sums up the way Southampton have been defending their lead, by throwing their bodies at the ball.

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

City have had 14 shots to Southampton's three.

However, all three of the Saints' efforts have been on target - none of City's have.

Work to do for Pep Guardiola's men after the break.

Yep. The Saints hold out and they lead at the break.

We have a real shock on our hands here.

  17. CLOSE!published at 45+1 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    City just keep on coming.

Raheem Sterling finds David Silva in the box but the Spaniard sees his shot blocked.

Was that City's last chance of the first half?

  18. Postpublished at 45 mins

    One minute of stoppage time.

  19. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

And now it's Southampton's turn to have a go.

Nathan Redmond does well to hold the ball up, and when support does arrive, its in the shape of Danny Ings, but the ex-Liverpool man's shot from range doesn't trouble Ederson.

  20. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

David Silva attempts to play his way into the Saints box but Jan Bednarek slams the door in his face.

    Not long 'til half-time now...
