City are throwing everything at this and their fans are giving everything too.

Southampton have got everyone back, and are getting their bodies in the way of the ball. Whether it be a shot or a cross, they are blocking it.

BIG chance for the hosts as John Stones heads over.

He rises like a salmon to meet Kevin De Bruyne's cross and he gets there before Alex McCarthy but he can't direct his header goalward.

City work the ball into Southampton's box again.

But Oriol Romeu dispossesses Raheem Sterling and boots the ball out of play.

Can they hold out until half-time??

This is relentless from City.

Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are probing the Southampton defence but they can't find a chink in the Saints' armour just yet.

Pep Guardiola just turned to the crowd to call for more encouragement from the stands, but he is getting even more animated when he signals to his players.

There is still plenty of time for City to turn this one around but their supporters are getting frustrated by the amount of time Saints are taking over goal-kicks and throw-ins. Anything to waste a few extra seconds, I suppose.

I probably shouldn't be saying this about a team that shipped nine goals last week but they look solid.

City have set up camp inside the Southampton half and the away side look reasonably happy to sit deep and defend.

None of them have seriously tested Alex McCarthy in the Saints goal, however.

This time Angelino gets a cross in and he looks to have found Sergio Aguero before a despairing lunge by Jannik Vestergaard sees the ball cleared.

Ilkay Gundogan picks it up on the edge of the box and tries one, but his effort is blocked, too.

Bernardo Silva has started brightly and he jinks his way into the box before getting a cross off.

Oriol Romeu is there to intercept and clear, though.

City are banging on the door...

The home fans are starting to wake up now.

There's loud appeals for a hand ball as Kyle Walker's cross is blocked by the arm of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but the ref says no.

The Saints fans in the corner of the South Stand are still bouncing around in celebration - no need for ironic chants about touching the ball today, they are proudly bellowing out 'Oh when the Saints go marching in'.

The home fans greeted that goal with stunned silence but they are urging their team forward now, in search of a quick reply.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg goes in the book for a cynical foul on Bernardo Silva as the Portuguese charged forward.
