Southampton have won just one of their last 43 Premier League games when trailing at half-time - drawing seven and losing 35, That was a 2-1 victory against Tottenham back in March.

And Watford have lost just one of their last 14 Premier League games when ahead at half-time - winning 11 and drawing two - a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham back in January.

Here a couple of stats to further darken the mood of Saints fans and boost Watford supporters...

Graham Green: The way they’re playing this season, Southampton aren’t in a relegation battle. They look like they’ve already conceded they’re going down in May and are preparing for a long stay in the Championship (or worse).

Saints frustrations come out at the start of the second half. Nathan Redmond leaves his foot in on a Watford players and sees yellow.

We go again. Watford get us rolling.

Desi: Can't question Saints effort but they seriously lack quality in key areas attack and defence.

Anders: Another spineless, limp, non-performance at St Marys. How much more of this dross do us Saints fan have to endure. We are so easy to play against and Ralph seems a washed up caricature of himself.

Anyway, back to St Mary's... Ralph Hasenhuttl's face is contorted with anxiety. He needs to have delivered a big half-time team-talk otherwise he could have moved ahead of Manuel Pellegrini in the queue at the Job Centre.

West Ham United

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini admitted he was relieved that a clutch of changes had paid off as the Hammers ended an eight-match winless streak in all competitions.

The Chilean's job remains on the line at the East End club, but he insisted he could push his side back in the right direction.

"When you don't win you are a beast and when you do you are a genius," said Pellegrini.

"For the team, for West Ham, for me and everyone, I think they did very well.

"But not only because I changed the goalkeeper, I think everyone produced the intensity you needed to win the game."

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard: "Shocked isn't the word, I'm more disappointed.

"We didn't perform the way we wanted to. But I do believe in the squad.

"There haven't been many times I have said we were below par, but today was one of those days.

"I don't think it's time for harsh reactions and judgements, it is time for a look at a bit of character to see our reaction."

West Ham United

West Ham goalkeeper David Martin speaking to BBC 5 Live after keeping a clean sheet in a surprise win on his Premier League debut: 'It feels a bit surreal at the moment.

'As a lad growing up supporting West Ham you dream of days like this, I’m happy I did not let anyone down and I enjoyed it in the end.

'My dad (Alvin, former West Ham player) was coming down anyway, the Premier League debut is a great moment and I am so pleased he was here to share it with me."

West Ham's win has particular significance for Southampton and Watford, having opened up the gap on the bottom three....

And they nearly get it! As Saints legend Francis Benalis wanted, the home side get the ball to Danny Ings down the left channel and, after holding it up and turning, finds Michael Obefami in support.

Via Nathan Redmond, the ball is worked out right and, with Watford stretched, Cedric Soares' cross is flicked goalwards by James Ward-Prowse.

Nice improvisation, not enough direction.

Southampton need a goal here. Something to galvanise them before the break.
