  1. A job well done...published at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Ralph Hassenhuttl jumps onto the pitch and clenches his fists.

He embraces his players and looks happier than a kid with a new computer game from Father Christmas.

Chelsea were poor... very poor in fact. Saints were organised and delivered all over the pitch.

I'm heading off for some stuffing and a pig in a blanket. Thanks for your company and here is the match report.

  2. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Chelsea lose consecutive home league games for the first time since 2011.

Southampton seal consecutive away wins in the Premier League.

    Who saw that coming?

  3. Postpublished at 90+3 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Alex McCarthy has been excellent for Saints today. Punching balls clear, claiming stuff, tipping shots over without taking stupid risks, you name it. He has the ball now and this game is done my friends...

  4. Postpublished at 90 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Chelsea have a goal kick and a handful of injury time minutes to do something.

Cedric Soares races forwards for Saints and asks for a corner but it's only a goal kick.

Chelsea go up the other end and Christian Pulisic wins a free-kick on the edge of the box.

This has to go in... four added minutes to come.

Mason Mount hits it... tipped over.

  5. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Frank Lampard is stone faced as Southampton take a succession of throw ins in the Chelsea half.

Dare I say it, I think Chelsea could play until 1 January and not score.

  6. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Chelsea look void of ideas and the January transfer window will surely be on the minds of all those at the club.

Today they've shown a few good moments but often when the ball reaches the final third and they are faced with a defensive block they have no clear ideas.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 79 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Southampton sitting in deep now and why not.

Che Adams is coming off and he's offered plenty of graft. Sofiane Boufal will come on.

  8. Postpublished at 76 mins

    Chelsea 0-2 Southampton

Christian Pulisic digs out a strike from 18 yards and it's turned past the post by Alex McCarthy.

Nothing happening for Chelsea. They look more confused than a dog watching University Challenge.

  9. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 0-2 Southamptonpublished at 73 mins

    Nathan Redmond

    What a superb team goal.

We thought they were just keeping the ball to run the clock down but Southampton have other ideas.

They work it forward, back, left, right and probably around 20 passes in all have unlocked Chelsea.

There's an element of fortune as it's actually turned into Nathan Redmond's path by a desperate Chelsea challenge and he makes no mistake, nudging the ball home from eight yards out.

    Would you believe it?

  10. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Southampton can again run the clock down with a spell of possession in the Chelsea half. These moments are so key and can they build something.... they can you know...

  11. Postpublished at 69 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

An in-swinging free-kick from the home side threatens to cause some mayhem but a bobble off one head and up into the air allows Alex McCarthy to grab the loose ball in his six-yard box.

Danny Ings is on for the goalscorer Michael Obafemi.

  12. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Christian Pulisic on for Callum Hudson-Odoi as we near the final quarter.

Don't worry Saints fans, I have Pulisic in my fantasy football team so he is guaranteed to do nothing.

Danny Ings will be with us shortly too.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 65 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Southampton go close to a second again, this time Nathan Redmond bursts through one on one and as bodies try to get across to him he pulls the trigger and forces a save from Kepa Arrizabalaga.

    That could be key.

  14. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Chelsea continue to try to force something but force is the correct work as nothing seems to be going for them. A through ball sees Cedric Soares dangle a leg out and it's enough to divert the ball back to his goalkeeper.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 61 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Fikayo Tomori goes into the book for dissent I think. He said something after N'Golo Kante had fouled Che Adams. Southampton will be thrilled here as they continue to run the clock down.

  16. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

A spell of possession for the away side and they keep the ball neatly. Danny Ings is warming up for them.

Chelsea nick it, Tammy Abraham is fed through the middle and superb covering by Jack Stephens prevents a simple chance.

  17. VAR

Video Assistant Refereepublished at 56 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

We have a VAR check for a penalty as Callum Hudson-Odoi has just curled a shot against a body in the area. He wants handball, the men behind computer screens say no.

    Play on lads, play on.

  18. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Chelsea corner... short one... back to Callum Hudson-Odoi... just over.

His curler effort flicks the roof of the net.

  19. Postpublished at 52 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Chelsea showing far more energy now at least and there's a touch of tempo to what they are doing - if a lack of quality. One wonders what they were thinking in the first half.

Saints though look to have more space now on the break and Nathan Redmond floats a ball in but it's got a bit much on it for those looking to get into the box. They did have numbers there though the away side and that will surely be a sign of things to come.

  20. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Southampton are inches from being 2-0 up.

Nathen Redmond gets in down the left and dribbles a low cross across the face of goal. It needs tapping in and just as Che Adams is about to apply a finish Fikayo Tomori stretches out a leg to nudge the ball for a corner. Had Tomori been an inch shorter he'd have missed it and Saints would be 2-0 up.
