  1. CLOSE!published at 46 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Well that is a show of intent, Kurt Zouma off and Mason Mount on.

And what's this, Mount feeds Tammy Abraham and he is through - narrow angle - drives it into the side netting.

That's more than Chelsea did in the entire opening 45 minutes.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Chelsea are out and Mason Mount is coming on. Mason Mount on, Kurt Zouma going off.

Veggieboi99: It’s Chelsea performances like these that make you realise just how much we relied on Hazard.

Chelsea Warrior: It worries me a lot that Frank has not fangled a system for beating teams that come to Stamford Bridge and sit deep.

Chelsea far from their best. Southampton organised and on the verge of a seriously good Christmas.

You have to think that one of the Chelsea centre-backs will have to come off? You can't play with three if you're one nil down at home.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Shout out to Michael Obafemi for the moment of quality that divides the teams. In truth, it's been pretty ugly out there. This game has been the definition of the term 'Christmas hangover'.

Southampton will not care a jot.

  9. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Chelsea press as the half draws to a close. Tammy Abraham looks to flick a ball on for Callum Hudson-Odoi but there's nothing coming from that. A shot from range from the home side is desperate and Alex McCarthy can have a kip before going down for that one if he wants.

    Easy work.

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

All of the play is now taking place in the Southampton half but there'll be a stoppage as Callum Hudson-Odoi has landed on his head after contesting a ball in the air. The England international went over the top of his man and came down heavy on the side of his face. Hats off to him, he's dusting himself down and looks bang up for coming back on.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 38 mins

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

Top piece of goalkeeping by Alex McCarthy. A corner sees Cesar Azpilicueta sneak in at the near post and he flicks one on with his foot. It's going across the face of goal at pace and the big keeper gets a hand on it to turn it away.

Chelsea at least look like they've woken up now.

  12. 'Big seven minutes'published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

    Steve Wilson
Match of the Day commentator at Stamford Bridge

A big seven minutes ahead at the end of the first half as Emerson wins Chelsea a corner. They need a big seven minutes here Chelsea.

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

N'Golo Kante receives the ball on the edge of the box and his touch is heavier than you or me after a Christmas buffet. Shocking.

That kind of sums the home side up in this opening half as they've been devoid of any care or quality.

They need to find something as another Callum Hudson-Odoi cross comes in and Cedric Soares clears easily.

  14. 'Southampton's pressing is impressive'published at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on Final Score

Southampton's pressing has been impressive. It's all about timing, they seem to know when to press and when to go for it. That's a wonderful goal for Southampton. Beautiful play.

That by the way is Michael Obafemi's first goal in the Premier League since last December. He must love the festive season.

  16. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 0-1 Southamptonpublished at 31 mins

    Michael Obafemi

That's how you take a goal my friends.

Michael Obafemi receives a pass 30 yards out and he's picked up enough space to be able to run at the home defence.

As the ball comes at him from the right flank from Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Obafemi continues to work it right-to-left and with space on his left foot - 18 yards out - he pings one into the top corner.

Superbly taken and Southampton now have something to defend. Chelsea need to wake up!

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 29 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

"There are now an increasing number of grumbles from the Chelsea supporters", says MOTD commentator Steve Wilson.

That's because they think Ryan Bertrand is wasting time with a throw and he duly gets booked.

  18. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

Ralph Hassenhuttl is off his bench and shouting instruction to his side. He must be thrilled with how organised they've been so far and how limited Chelsea have looked.

Cesar Azpilicueta puts a cross in but it's headed clear.

It's early days but Chelsea have looked very predictable so far.

  19. 'Southampton need to up the tempo'published at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on Final Score

Southampton have defended really well so far. The game looks a little bit slow. As soon as Tammy Abraham has the ball, he has five players around him, they are defending really well. Southampton just need to up the tempo if they are going to get a goal.

  20. No shots for Blues!published at 21 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

I can tell you that Chelsea failed to have a shot in the opening 20 minutes of a home Premier League game for the first time since last December against Man City.

Shout out to the lads and lasses at Opta.
