  1. 'We had to fight'published at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Man City 2-1 Everton

    Manchester City

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, speaking to BBC Match Of The Day: "That I keep scoring against Everton, I think it's a coincidence! I am happy with the victory, the team played so well. We kept the ball, passed and created chances.

"They have a lot of good players so we needed a second goal. It was nervous at the end because they have a lot of good players. We had to fight and be careful at the end."

On the hectic schedule: "I am not tired, but I did not play against Wolves - I was ill - but the guys who have played a lot are tired. It's difficult. We have to rest and recover to play again now."

  2. 'We knew it was a must-win'published at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    West Ham 4-0 Bournemouth

    West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgass: "It's massive, the way the other results went we knew it was a must-win and we had to get off to the right start with a new manager. He's come in and told us where we need to be better. We have worked on what we need to improve and it all came together today, it was a massive performance."

On the fans' support: "They've been behind us, they have just been really frustrated. We lost nine of 12 so any fan would be upset, especially after the start we had to the season. What a way to try and get them back onside."

  5. 'We must adapt and get used to VAR'published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Watford 2-1 Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to BT Sport: "The performance was not the best. We started slow and allowed Watford into the game. They had a couple of chances but no more than that. But we only reacted after the second goal.

"We didn’t create enough to really get the draw and get what we wanted. We have a team with character but we didn’t have that today. Let’s work on it and try and improve for the next one."

On the decision to send off Christian Kabasele via a VAR check: "I didn’t see the image clearly yet but all the players said Diogo [Jota] was going for a clear chance of goal.

"VAR must work and we must adapt and get used to VAR, especially in defence. Premier League football is known for good referees, the flow and rhythm of the game, and we want this to continue."

    Watford 2-1 Wolves

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Final Score

Watford will be buzzing after that win - I have not seen Wolves put on the back foot in that manner for a while. Watford today were men and did what they were told. It was a very good result at home. What I liked about Watford was they were all together. They scored the goals and got the rest of the team together in a huddle and said 'let's keep this going'. It was encouraging to see if you are a Watford fan.

  7. 'We were prepared to put our bodies on the line'published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Watford 2-1 Wolves

    Watford

Watford boss Nigel Pearson to BBC Match of the day: "We displayed a different kind of win today. We had to show a lot of commitment to dig in. It was a tough second half going down to 10 men, Wolves are a decent side and had a lot of possession. But we were prepared to put our bodies on the line.

"What I’ve seen today is a group of players with incredible unity, they have an appetite to work hard to get out of the situation we are in.

"There is an awful long way to go. There are going to be times that we need to do what we did today, to show resilience and desire to stay in the game when you opponents have the ascendancy. But the bottom line is we scored two goals and kept them at arm’s length for most of the game."

On Christian Kabasele's red card: "The players feel it was harsh, based on the type of contact and the position of team-mates, so we will have to look at it. I’ve not seen it yet. The important thing was to try and keep calm, we had to make changes and I felt the players dealt with it exceptionally well."

  8. 'Not happy with penalty VAR ignored'published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho speaking to Match of the Day: "I am not happy with the penalty that VAR ignored. They did not want to analyse then they decided to analyse what clearly was not a penalty. It's just use some sense. You don't want to analyse the big ones and want to analyse ones that are clearly not penalties.

On his yellow card: "I was rude to one of the people on the bench. I felt I deserved it. There was of course a reason for it. I will not tell you but for some reason I had that reaction. The fourth official decided to give me a yellow card and I accept."

    Norwich 1-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace goalscorer Connor Wickham: "Thankfully it came off! We said at half-time that we knew the game was there to take. We have played four hard games in the last 10 days or so. We have showed what team spirit we have got. We are on a good run and we got a good point today.

"I had a chance last week and I felt I let the team down. I was glad to get on the pitch again and show the fans what I can do.

"We don't have a big enough squad at the minute to get that break and we have a lot of tough games coming up but we have showed we can do it."

Once again a card decision doesn't go City's way, there is far too much inconsistency. If Ederson was a straight red why wasn't Calvert-Lewin’s foul? Equally why wasn't Van Dijk against Calvert-Lewin in the Merseyside derby?? These should be reviewed as in Rugby.

    Tony Dodd, Lamberhurst

I agree totally with Alan (19:09), Pogba needs to go! We can get a midfielder who actually wants to play for United for under £100 million!
