A rare all-Edinburgh final was a possibility, but that was always going to be a tall order considering Hibs and Hearts' woes in the Premiership.

Instead, as expected, it is the first Old Firm final since 2011 after Celtic's demolition of Hibs yesterday and the ease of Rangers' victory today.

Steven Gerrard's side will attempt to end Celtic's run of nine domestic trophies in a row at Hampden on 8 December.

The Glasgow rivals are nip and tuck at the top of the Premiership and a classic final is in prospect.

The counting's done and, not surprisingly, Alfredo Morelos is your choice as man of the match after two goals that took the striker's total for the season to 20.

As we heard pre-match, Hearts are in no rush to make a permanent appointment and Austin MacPhee will have at least one more chance to lead his team out when they face St Mirren in the Premiership next weekend before the international break.

Former Hearts and Scotland winger Neil McCann threw his hat in the ring on BBC Scotland's Sportsound this afternoon. Who will be next?

We've not heard from Austin MacPhee yet. I'm sure it won't have dented his enthusiasm for taking the Hearts job on permanently, but it will be a sore one for the caretaker manager and won't have helped his cause.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard tells BT Sport "we were aware we had five previous attempts" at getting to a final without success.

"I thought we were outstanding," he says. "We were in total control, dominated the majority of the game.

"Once the game opened up, you could see our quality."

Referring to last season's 1-0 defeat by Aberdeen at the same stage, Gerrard suggests his team are much improved.

"I felt differently about mentally," he says. "With all due respect, last year I knew we were limited. Standing today with Alfredo Morelos and Jermian Defoe, I felt different. We're in better shape than 12 months ago."

For Hearts, it is a game that will do little to improve caretaker Austin MacPhee's chances of taking the job permanently.

His gameplan was not helped by injuries to Glenn Whelan and Michael Smith, but his side were already second best before those two added to Hearts' long list of injury problems.

It was a mirror image of yesterday's first semi-final - the Glasgow side easing aside their rivals from Edinburgh.

Unlike Hibs in their 5-2 loss to Celtic, though, Hearts rarely looked like grabbing the crumb of comfort that comes from a goal at Hampden.

Rangers winger Ryan Kent is looking forward to the cup final against Celtic.

"These are the games you relish as a professional," he tells BT Sport. "It will be a tough game, but we've got lots of confidence and hopefully we can come away with some silverware.

"The first goal was key today and it gave us a lot of confidence going into the second."

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack is "over the moon" with the victory.

"I'm obviously delighted for the club and supporters," he tells BT Sport. "We've got a lot of big games, they come think and fast and we're delighted to get to a final.

"This squad's got great talent and who knows how far we can go?"
