  1. More Poch statspublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

Pochettino has taken charge of more Premier League games than any other Spurs manager in Premier League history (202), although in no other season under Pochettino have the Lilywhites been lower in the table at this stage of the season (Nov 19th) than they currently are in 2019-20 (14th).

  2. What led Spurs to sack Poch?published at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

As we wait to find out what was the straw that broke the camel's back, we can piece together what factors led up to this decision.

    • Tottenham's transfer funds - or lack of them - which irked Pochettino
    • Suggestions of unrest in the squad
    • The sagas surrounding the futures of Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen
    • The frankly poor league position at the mo

Did those issues influence the decision made by the Spurs chiefs?

Anisa: Poch, come and join the red and white side of North London, you'll get a warm welcome!

Angus Robb: It's all well and good for pundits like JJenas and CSutton to say it's wrong to sack MP, but something had to change at Spurs. Poch had something to do with it too. Spurs have been awful in the EPL and the UCL results underline how great their squad is.

I wonder if Tottenham were swayed by this stat...

Mauricio Pochettino boasted the best points-per-game ratio of any Tottenham manager in Premier League history. However, after a poor start to the current campaign, the Argentine (1.89) dropped to second behind predecessor Tim Sherwood (1.91).

    Behind Sherwood.

Rachel Fleming: Poch should have walked in the summer. The team were declining towards the end of last season and the start of this season was inevitable.

Helles Mammut: Unless Tottenham have someone like Allegri or Mourinho already lined up the decision and especially the timing makes no sense. I doubt anyone could have done better than Poch with #Spurs, external budget in the last few years. It looks like the relation with Levy broke down.

    Agree with both viewpoints here

  7. Here's the Tottenham statement....published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

The Club can today announce that Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino and Antoni Jimenez have been relieved of their duties.

Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: "We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the Board has taken lightly, nor in haste.

“Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.

“It falls to the Board to make the difficult decisions - this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff - but we do so in the Club's best interests.

“Mauricio and his coaching staff will always be part of our history. I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the difficult times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us. I should like to thank him and his coaching staff for all they have contributed. They will always be welcome here.

“We have a talented squad. We need to re-energise and look to deliver a positive season for our supporters.”

We shall provide an update on new coaching staff in due course.

  8. Why sack Poch now?published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2019

So what made Spurs bosses decide that Tuesday night in international week was the best time to make the decision?

There was some thought that any decision over Poch's future might be made depending on the outcome of the match against rivals West Ham next weekend.

But no... they've gone full Lord Sugar before that game.

You would think they must have someone in place eh?
