Possibly not. The Daily Mail report , externalthat Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy only turned to the Portuguese after it became clear that prising Brendan Rodgers away from Leicester was not going to happen.

It will take some time to look 'right' won't it?

Tottenham have released pictures of their new manager clutching the club shirt.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Jose Mourinho won't be arriving at the club's training ground today, because he did so last night!

Apparently the Portuguese spent the night at the private hotel within the grounds of the Enfield Training Centre after finalising the details of his contract with club officials.

Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is the latest player to thank Mauricio Pochettino for his influence on their career.

Former West Ham and Everton boss Sam Allardyce speaking to Talksport:

"There were often questions that because he lived in the hotel at Manchester United that was one of the problems, because he was away from his family.

"He's back with his family, back in London, where he loves, and he's back with Tottenham, which is a massive club for him to get his teeth into and try to get them winning some trophies.

"Certainly he's got the talent and quality of squad to make Tottenham a big challenger and I think they can still challenge for the top four."

Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust have released another statement this morning to catch up with the news of Jose Mourinho's appointment.

"Jose Mourinho is now the manager of Tottenham Hotspur and we hope this will bring the success we all want," it reads.

"There are obviously concerns about how Jose and our Club’s Executive Board will work together, and we are sure all fans would appreciate greater clarity on how the Club sees this relationship operating in practice.

"As a supporters organisation, we hope for a successful future that respects the unique Tottenham Hotspur identity and the traditions Spurs fans cherish so dearly."

A reminder of how the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust reacted to the news of Mauricio Pochettino's sacking last night.

"During his time at Spurs, Poch gave us many of our best moments as supporters, made Tottenham Hotspur a force to be reckoned with again, and forged a strong link with the fans. We will never forget the joy he brought us," it said in a statement.

"Of course, results in the league have been disappointing for some time. But many fans thought Poch had earned the right to turn it around in the first sustained period of poor form we've had during his time at the club.

"We now have to look forward and take stock. But there are questions that must be asked of the board."

Tottenham have taken 25 points from their last 24 league games.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, The Last word on Spurs podcast's Ricky Sacks, said: "Maybe we have sold our soul to the devil to some degree, but it is a big statement. The board have been accused in the past of not wanting to go to the next level in terms of wining trophies and now they have brought in a man with a proven track record of bringing trophies wherever he has gone. He is used to managing top clubs. The last few hours have happened so quickly, in terms of Mauricio Pochettino leaving and Mourinho coming in, but we have to get behind him.

"Anyone employing Jose as their manager would be having that chat about what is available and what the club are looking for. Jose spoke beforehand about his next club having a clear structure and the board will make it clear as to the funds available to him. His statement says he is looking forward to working with this group and there is a lot of talent there, we have still got over half the season and we can finish in that top with the FA Cup and Champions League to play.

"He will split opinion among the fans but he is a serial winner and we will command the respect of the dressing room straight away. We are missing glory and he is the man that delivers that. It is the biggest gamble in levy’s reign at the club."

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Tottenham fan Emma Nottage said: "It has been a surreal 12 hours. I went to bed without a manager and I have woken up with a new manager. Last night I didn't want him but the more I have thought about it, I'm actually quite excited. He is proven and Poch wasn’t, he has never been able to take that next step.

"I'm so grateful for the last five years and he has been amazing, it has been the best ride I have ever been on as a Spurs fan. But we need to take that next step and we need to win stuff and I do not think Jose will disregard the lower cups. You have got to start small and not aim for the stars and I think he will prove a few people wrong.

"As fans, we were all heartbroken at the end of last season and we want to win trophies. It is still raw for everybody but you need someone who is not going to mollycoddle players. I think Poch was too nice and the players need to start performing."

Tottenham playmaker Son Heung-min has written a heartfelt message on Instagram about the departure of Mauricio Pochettino: "Needless to say how much I thank this man. Words are powerless to express my gratitude. I have learned a lot from you not only in football, but in life. Good luck in your future and I wish you all the best."

The first test of Jose Mourinho's commitment to promoting Tottenham's youth may come pretty soon.

Seventeen-year-old Spurs striker Troy Parrott, who made his first-team debut in September, is apparently a target for Bayern Munich.

The Daily Mail, external say the German giants are hoping to lure him to the Bundesliga before his current contract expires in 2021.

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I love Mauricio Pochettino, but he has been averaging a point a game over the last 25 games. The Tottenham board are ruthless businessmen, they will have realised that at this rate they might not make the top four.

"Also the same voice after six years starts to wear a little thin, a new man can find another 10%, they will find a spring in their step for Jose's first game."

Is Jose Mourinho an upgrade in the Tottenham dug-out? The club accountants would tell you so if a report in the Daily Mail is to be believed.

The Daily Mail , externalreport that Mourinho will earn £15m a year in wages, double what Pochettino was being paid.
