Of all managers to have taken charge in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho is still the quickest to reach both the 50-win (63 games) and 100-win (142 games) landmarks in the competition.

Mourinho is only 10 wins away from reaching 200 Premier League victories as a manager (currently on 190 wins). Only four managers have won 200+ games in the Premier League: Sir Alex Ferguson (528), Arsene Wenger (476), Harry Redknapp (236) and David Moyes (204).

Jose Mourinho apparently told Lyon in October that he already had a job lined up.

Pochettino's assistant Jesus Perez put out this message to Tottenham fans last night on social media.

Chris Clee: Last season, Spurs didn't spend and Poch got them a Top 4 in the PL and the CL Final. He's had a rough start to the season, but on what planet do you bin a boss who can do that?! Mourinho is yesterday's man in football who only wins if he spends money. Spurs don't.

Kris Jefferson: Mourinho’s reputation definitely declined while at Man Utd. However, Utd’s plight since he left has shown how good a job he really did there. Genuinely still believe he‘s one of the best managers in the world and this could be an great bit of business by Spurs.

Tottenham legend Paul Gascoigne speaking to Sky Sports News: "Jose Mourinho is a unbelieveable manager, if I was a Tottenham player I would be delighted knowing he was coming in. For me Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Robson were the very best and Jose Mourinho is not far from them, you cannot get much better than him.

"I don't think it will take him long to win round the dressing room. If I was a player I would look at what he has won the emotions that he incites in players, he is a manager I would play for certainly.

"He will put the players on their toes certainly. Jose will want to strengthen his team to get it to the standard of Liverpool and Manchester City.

"He won't want to mess about."

"The timing is a little strange I think. None of Pochettino's backroom staff saw this coming even in the early afternoon of yesterday.

"It feels like Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino reached the end of the road.

"Mauricio has been warning for two years that the team needed recycling and he wanted the club to make smarter, faster decision in the transfer market. It was not just about the amount of money being spent but how they were approaching the transfer market.

"I think, with the new stadium, Tottenham needed a name to promote the value of the club and Mourinho is certainly that. But I guarantee you if that Levy puts the same restrictions on Mourinho that Pochettino has there will be trouble. And quickly."

The Athletic, external claim to have the inside story on how relationships inside the Tottenham dressing room deteriorated in the last six months of Mauricio Pochettino's reign.

Apparently players would avoid eye contact with the Argentine for fear of inciting his wrath as he became increasingly isolated and angry.

Former Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I think everyone at the club will always have great affection for Mauricio but as a board of directors you have to look at that way things are going and the board had to make a decision.

"I was one of the managers of one of the teams competing in an exhibition match when they were testing out the new stadium in March. Jose was part of the coaching staff looking after an Inter Milan XI. He was great throughout the day and afterwards he came to me and and said how much this club is moving forward, how fantastic this stadium is. He was clearly very impressed."

Bezaleel Aduwumi: Dear Mr. Levy, now that you've named Jose Mourinho as the new Spurs manager, get the chequebook ready and I'm sure Spurs fans will ask you why the funds were not available to Poch as you will make the funds available to Mourinho.

ESPN's Melissa Reddy believes that Mauricio Pochettino's success in changing perceptions about Tottenham being perennial underachievers is worth any number of trophies.

Former England, Newcastle and Blackburn striker Alan Shearer speaking to BBC Breakfast: "They say nothing should surprise you in football but it has moved really quickly.

"I was suprised by Pochettino's sacking, you would think what he has achived in the five years - turning them into regular top-four contenders and visitors to the knock-out stages of the Champions League - that he would have something in the bank, that he would be given a few months to turn things around.

"Mourinho has been waiting for a big job and now has got one. He has big boots to fill to try and better what Pochettino has done. The Argentine may not have won a trophy by the way that Pochettinho delivered his football and that Champions League final was very special and will live with Spurs fans for many years.
