    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Rangers captain James Tavernier says he enjoys the pressure of leading the Ibrox club and is desperate to come out on top today.

"I've enjoyed the responsibility and the role since the gaffer gave me the armband," he said at Friday's media day. "It makes me want to do better, especially for myself, the club and the boys.

"It brings more attention but I relish the pressure. I just want to repay the gaffer, the lads and the fans with silverware. We have to deliver. The fans have waited long enough.

"I didn't like losing when I was five years old so I certainly don't like it now.

"The boys in the changing room don't like it either. We're all strong mentally. We're all winners and want to win things. We need to go out on the day and want it more."

  8. Collum is the man in chargepublished at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

The man in the middle today is Willie Collum. The referee made headlines in October when he awarded Borussia Munchengladbach a stoppage-time penalty against Roma when the ball hit defender Chris Smalling in the face.

VAR would have cleared the incident up in a few seconds but the technology is not used in the Europa League and, of course, officials get no help from replays here in Scotland.

Everyone likes a good moan about referees but there haven't been too many major gripes this season. Let's hope it stays that way.

It will be a cracker of a game and I think it's a huge game at this stage of the season, for many reasons. Both teams are playing so well and whoever wins today it will kick them on for the rest of the season. I think Rangers probably need it more. If Celtic don't win they will say 'it's just another game' but for Rangers this could be a moment where they can say 'we are there now' and it could set up an incredible end to the season.

We asked you to pick a Rangers & Celtic select and the results are in.

With more than 35,000 submissions, the most popular pick was Celtic's in-form Ryan Christie, just ahead of Rangers skipper James Tavernier. Both men were in close to 20,000 of the fantasy teams.

No surprises with the front two of Alfredo Morelos and Odsonne Edouard, while Fraser Forster gets the nod ahead of Allan McGregor, with 58% of the votes cast for the goalkeeper's gloves.

You always look forward to a cup final, especially an Old Firm cup final. I'm looking forward to see how they will set up and that tactical battle. You can throw the weather into the mix, there could be mistakes made that could cost someone a cup final. I'm going to stick with a draw and going into extra-time.

  13. 'We don't take it for granted'published at 13:10

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is confident his players are motivated for yet more success.

"We have our focus, our ideas on why we want to win, regardless of what it means to Rangers," he said. "It's irrelevant to me.

"It's just another game with a trophy at the end of it. We don't take it for granted, you can see the players don't take it for granted.

"The semi-final performance (against Hibernian), there was pressure going into that game but they handled the occasion and the pressure brilliantly.

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

"The psychology of the game is fascinating. Previously, we would've turned up at these games and you'd put your house on Celtic winning comfortably.

"Today, not so much. If Odsonne Edouard starts then I think Celtic win, but narrowly. This won't be a stroll in the park."

  15. Rangers win would be 'huge lift'published at 13:05

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

"Throughout my life football has always been about cup finals and success so I'm looking forward to it," said Rangers boss Steven Gerrard at Friday's media day.

"It's not about me and the trophies I've won. This about Rangers and the players and us giving ourselves the chance to win our first trophy together.

"It was a setback when we didn't do that last year. Now it's about getting over the final hurdle which will be the most difficult I'm sure.

Rangers manager Steven GerrardImage source, SNS

Can Steven Gerrard win his first trophy as a manager?

"If we manage to do it it would be a huge lift for the supporters and the club. We'd certainly benefit from that as a group.

"We've definitely progressed in the 18 months we've been together. We're now competitive and have shown on the European stage against high-level opposition we can win.

"Domestically, there's more respect for Rangers now and this gives us another chance to grab something. I'm sure there will be benefits from that."

The last time we had weather like this at Hampden, Scotland trounced San Marino during an October downpour.

There were periods in the second half when the ball was holding up on a soggy surface and it may well have been called off if it had been an easy enough to rearrange domestic match.

  18. Is Frimpong ready for first final?published at 12:55

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Former Rangers striker Billy Dodds and former Celtic centre forward Craig Beattie were talking tactics and line-ups on Friday's edition of Sportsound.

"Odsonne Edouard might not be 100% fit but he starts," said Beattie, who won three league titles in his time with the current holders. "There's no question. If the team sheet comes out and he's not on it, I think it would sound as if a goal had gone in already."

    Jeremie FrimpongImage source, SNS

Will Jeremie Frimpong get his first taste of the Old Firm derby this afternoon?

Dodds, who lifted one league trophy, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup in the blue of Rangers, is unsure if Celtic teenager Jeremie Frimpong is suited to a game of this magnitude.

"Frimpong is just scary going forward but there's no doubt he has a bit to learn defensively," he said. "I think Steven Gerrard would be pretty happy if he plays. He will be thinking Ryan Kent can get at him."

  19. Will we see any surprises on the team sheets?published at 12:50

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Both sides pretty much pick themselves if everyone is fit. But is everyone fit?

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has missed the last three matches but manager Neil Lennon said on Friday that he expects the Frenchman to start. He also declared Jonny Hayes, Boli Bolingoli and Mohamed Elyounoussi fit.

Greg Taylor is cup-tied, while fellow full-back Hatem Elhamed is missing through injury, along with forward Vakoun Bayo.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard refused to comment on reports that influential midfielder Steven Davis is a doubt, saying only that he had "one or two carrying knocks".

Left-back Borna Barisic sat out Wednesday's 2-2 draw at Aberdeen with bone bruising to his foot. The 27-year-old needed injections to get through recent games against Feyenoord and Hearts.

All will be revealed an hour or so before kick-off.

  20. Last time they met in the finalpublished at 12:45

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Nikica Jelavic grabbed an extra-time winner as Rangers triumphed against Celtic in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final in Mach 2011.

Rangers took the lead through Steven Davis' 20-yard strike but Joe Ledley headed Celtic level on 31 minutes.

The second half was tense with Celtic's Fraser Forster saving from Steven Whittaker and Rangers keeper Neil Alexander denying Ledley.

But Jelavic fired in off the post in the 98th minute to win it for Rangers.

Rangers' win ended Celtic's hopes of a domestic treble and they went on to win the league by a point, with Celtic's consolation a Scottish Cup success over Motherwell.
